this is on my 91 7mgte
i just swapped from my buddy's greddy bov to a used(idk how old) hks bov that i bought from a member on here.
i get compressor flutter all the way up to 9psi (my max psi) even with the screw all the way out.
could it be stuck?
could it be fucked?
could i have something wrong?
i have the vacuum hooked up in the same place as before

Where are you getting your vacuum from..? I have a long line (about 4 1/2 feet) to my HKS BOV and it works just fine, however I do have a strong vacuum (tee'd off the FPR)...

it could be possible that the diaphragm might need a bit of oiling or whatever, i'm not entirely sure how to maintain them, guess I should look into it as well..

the vacuum source is the oem bov one.
i was thinking silicone spray but idk what material is in there.
should i manually push on something?
i have had it for 6months just sitting there.

Get rid of it lol. I have two, both have failed me. They both leak massive amounts of boost pressure from the valve that's "never supposed to leak". Called HKS and they simply accused me of buying knock offs, what a big help...

BTW I have both first and second gen units, ie one with and without the adjustment screw.

You can spray some wd in there to try and clean it out. Theres a thread about it somewhere but i dont feel like searching.

Nothing yet. Diagnosing the issue with the HKS. I've found the only possible place it can leak (besides the O-ring in the flange) is the seal used on the front cover where the air expels. I was going to contact HKS about a new seal as my local place (JSC which can get pretty much anything) cannot get it. Hopefully HKS will sell it since he told me they are very finicky about just selling the pieces if they don't do the work. I really don't like the plastic the SSQV's use to 'seal' under pressure, it just looks cheap and makes me question just how well it seals vs a smooth metal piece.

I would strongly advise against this as the wd40 would only attract dirt if vented to atmosphere. The sealing surface, i am finding, is quite poor. The best place to start with flutter is the vacuum source.

thanks for the replys!
well my vacuum source is the same one i have used since the stock bov and still has a good vacuum on it.
i also checked the line for blockage and i can blow threw it just fine.
i manually actuated the bov as the car was running and it seems smooth when i pushed in on it.
the only thing that i would think from keeping it actuating is the vacuum but when i pulled the line off it had a strong vacuum.
im lost and i cant get my hands on another bov to check.

yeah i blew through that and it wasnt hard to do.

ok so with the same vacuum line that i had on the hks, i swapped the greddy back in and it works fine so i guess my next step is to call hks.

side note:
i just went all hard pipes and it was fun to drive that short shift (due to fuel cut) monster.
breaking loose in 2nd at 4k with stock size tires

i just did the vacuum test and it will only hold -3psi unless i pump like crazy and then i can get it to -8psi before it drops back to 0.
i think it takes 2sec to drop to zero. sound normal?
