hints/tips/tricks marlincrawler shifter bushing install?

I've been reading up on the forum about the marlincrawler.com shifter bushings. I've read basically they are very difficult to install....well the seat is. I ordered some because my shifter has between 3-4" of left->right play when in gear :nono: so these should help a lot (so i read).

So basically, has anyone come across a good method to install the bushing so i'm prepared for when they arrive. I've read to lube up the bushings and that's about all i found. Thanks.

I installed one on my R154 and it was easy as pie. Take the old one out, and put the new one in. You just have to flip it over so the 2 grooves of the bushing are resting on the 2 prongs on the tranny. Then, just rotate it around and tap in place.

If you have a W58, you want part number MC-10076 and MC-10078. If you have the R154, you want part number MC-10077 and MC-100778.

yeah i did, but i kept reading how much of a b**ch it was to install so i figured that's not how it installed on our cars....i've never taken the shifter off

my question is then....why were so many people saying it was so hard??

Here is what you need to do...

• Put the car in neutral
• Remove the shift knob
• Remove the center console
• Unbolt the four 12 or 14mm bolts (can't remember which size)
• Pull the shifter up (might have some resistance because of the bushing at the bottom of the shifter)
• Remove the old bushing (get all the pieces out if it is broke)
• Install the new bushing like I mentioned above
• Reinstall everything in reverse order.

Trush me, it is easy. I've done it.

Unless I got a set that was out of spec (most people seem to) It does not install as easily as that clip posted earlier, lol, I wish it flipped over that easily. You have to really force it in during that flipping process

I didn't really have to force mine. It was a tight fit, but still went in decently smooth.

I'd warm it up with a hair drier before i put it in, so it can flex some.

YES!

Also, on my truck it went in pefect, but on the supra it was very VERY tight and I had to grind a bit off the sides so it went in easier...

Getting the little cup off the tip is tough sometimes, but getting it back on is easy. Honestly the hardest part is installing the shifter back in as the cup is a very tight tolerance and if it isn't perfectly straight, it won't go in. If you force it, you'll just mess up the cup.

Best upgrade you can do IMHO...

I've been using these on all my cars for YEARS now.

Recently, I've been packaging their seat and knuckle with my socket repair bushing for the w58 bushing trio group-buy. The feedback I'm getting on them is AMAZING and 50% of that is thanks to the MarlinCrawler bits.

Your R154's don't have the trouble with the shifter socket, they saw their failure with the w58 and chose to go with a solid socket that doesn't deform, so you only need the #10077 seat and #10078 knuckle (they call it a socket) bushings from marlin crawler.

Don't forget to mention "supra" in your order sheet so they know we're out here loving them up.

Exactly!!! Both the bushing and the socket one for the shifter is an awesome and cheap (perfect for us Supra owners ) upgrade.

Mine took a bit of force to get into the housing.
The before and after are amazing, well worth it.

exactly. not rocket science. make it even easier- slap some grease or gear oil on it.
