high pitch whirring noise

my battery suddenly died on me today, it was cranking over decently this morning but when i went to start it awhile ago there was nothing, no cranking whatsoever. We did boost it up and it began to run very strangely. It would idle terribly, dipping lower than 500 rpm and i had to force revs so it wouldnt stall for about 5-10 mins. i am pretty sure this is not just heat soak because when i did get heat soak it only idle'd roughly for about 30 secs or less. it seems to be idling fine now however. Also i noticed that after i boosted my car and drove it its made a small but very noticable high pitch whirring noise at about 2000+ rpm. anyone have any idea whats up with my car? haha thanks!:1zhelp:

Use a Volt-meter on your battery when the car is running it should be 14Volt if not obviously a problem with your alternator as IJ said.
