it does it weather my foot is on the clutch or not high or low spd as long as its in fith


Trans issue if the noise stays when the trans is in fifth and the motor isnt the problem because when you push in the clutch the motor in essence becomes disconnected from the trans. Carrier bearing trans or rear end. Those are the only issues it could be.

could it be his diff?

differential whine is common when they start to fail, no? Maybe it just takes the kind of drivetrain/axle RPM obtained in 5th to be audible?
