High oil pressure?

I recently have run into an abnormal oil pressure on the stock gauge. Im reading 20psi of pressure once the engine is warmed up completely and at idle. It has always been well within spec just like the previous running time.

Now what I have done to the car is install the new IC and hardpipes, then reolcated the oil cooler. Im thinking it has something to do with disconnecting the oil cooler? I only extended the soft rubber lines going to and from the oil cooler by an inch or two at the most. This is rather strange why it just changed after that.

Any ideas?

That's too low guys..

19-20 psi at idle is too low???? WTF over.

Chris - if you are using the stock filter head to pressurize the cooler circuit, there is no way it (or the line to/from) can be responsible for a 20 psi idle pressure - the cooler relief valve doesn't open till ~40 psi. A blocked filter won't do it either - the filter will simply go into bypass. A much more important question is what is oil pressure at 3000 RPM?

Oil pressure at 3k is about 45 psi give or take. Running a 10w30 oil and the oil pump has the shim mod done.

The oil cooler its self is getting warm so the oil is circulating.

10-30 oil is rather thick for these engines....recomend 0-30 or 5-30...but this is a funny issue indeed!

The issue is after the engine has warmed up so it makes no difference wether he is using 0w-30 or 10w-30, its the same viscosity.

OP: The oil is not the cause of the problem here, but you still need to use 5w-30 or 0w-30. The first number is the viscosity cold. The higher the viscosity, the more resistant it is to flow. In plain english the 10w-30 is too thick as gaboon said, but only when cold. Using the 10w-30 is just going to make your engine struggle to lubricate itself when cold, increasing wear on startup/warm up.

What if I am reading 30psi at 3000rpm? I got 20W-50 in it now but I am going to change that on the next oil change. At idle it drops to about 10 maybe

I honestly meant to write TOO HIGH, fuck me god dammit. That's what I get for drinking at 1pm.

Im going to change the oil anyways before I put the car back on the road so I will put in a 5w30.

Now im curious if maybe the relief valve on the oil filter bracket is sticking slightly causing the 20psi oil pressure at idle?

If you're only getting that much pressure with 20w-50 in it, you have other issues.

No, as the valve opens at 40psi.

Sometimes I wonder why I even post.

I really dont think thats all that high,, my old 89 ran 35 at idle, and almost 60 over 3k.
also are you using stock gauges or a real op gauge? our gauges suck
