Same place where I mounted mine on the backside of the front bumper most all good ballest are water proof but not safe to submerge.

As close to the light as passible yet as high & dry I found the front bumper above the foglight and below the head light is the safest area to mount them.

Wish I could find one of my old DOT halogens (think I tossed em)

DOT sends more blinding light than E-code lenses with my HID's.

Keep in mind my HID's didn't last long and I won't be buying them again and instead replacing all the lighting (headlights and fogs) sometime in the future...

Agreed. but thats in a bmw.... has anyone made it look like that like that in a supra? whos got as pic of the retrofit?

Good eye. ;) However, that is NOT stock lighting for that particular model, an e36 M3. If I remember correctly, that's an fx35 retrofit using blacked out shields and TSX lenses.

Yes, the very same setup I mentioned above in this very thread. And it's been done to a Supra before, although this is straight fx35:

I've got two sets of fx's at my house. One's going in my M3, the other is going in my GF's '99 Legacy. I'll be getting another set for a crazy idea I've got bouncing around my head for the Supra. And if anyone is wondering why I love fx35 HID's so much, it's because they're very compact so they're easy for retrofits, and they're bixenon, and I enjoy my high beams, especially where I live!

wow calm down dude . you want proof ill take some pics and post them for you. and how the hell am i suposed to get cutoff like a projector light from a hallogen type enclosure. if you were trying to put me in my place you should have gotten a picture more suited for the situation.

You're not, and that's my point. Putting HID's in a housing designed for a halogen is stupid. Been there, done that. However, I learn from my mistakes. ;)

The picture I posted is suited EXACTLY to the situation. It's a PROPER HID retrofit using Infiniti FX35 bixenon projectors in euro ellipsoid e36 BMW housings.

My point is that instead of putting HID's in a halogen housing, you should be retrofitting HID projectors into whatever housings you choose. I'm not trying to put you in your place, I'm trying to educate you. There's a big difference.:3d_frown:

Following up on the FX35 HIDs... In the attached photo of some 07 FX35 HIDs, the wiring shown does not look hi-voltage. Are these missing parts... like maybe the bulb and ballast?

Yep, you answered your own question. The red wires are for the HI/LO solenoid. The connector that goes before that has a diode in it from one wire to the other. Many people run them with no diode just fine. I have the pigtails w/ diodes in them. In the first pic there are also no bulbs. (D2S)

The second pic shows the high voltage wires and OEM Infiniti/Nissan Matsushita ballasts. The ignitors are attached directly to the back of the D2S bulbs in pic #2. They make a "long wire" and "short wire" version of these ballasts, but you can buy the wires separately and swap them out easily. :)

If you're interested in how to modify the FX's for a sharper cutoff than OEM can provide, cut off the second shield, black them out, and run the clear lens version, not to be confused with the frosted or fresnel versions, which provide a fuzzy cutoff, even with the shield mod. you guys should just listen to Shaeff, he knows what he is doing and what advice he is giving out and, he did bring up pictures of my car, with fx35 hid projectors bulbs and ballast, i've had this retrofitted in 2005, there is only a handful of mk3 owners that have done, you will never get a cutoff like you do with a HID PROJECTOR vs the hella 200mm ecode ece housings, with pnp hids. THE FX35 projectors are the smallest you can fit, WITHOUT cutting up your radiator supprt like other guys do with their flush mount projectors, and nsx headlights. I used the Fx projectors because for what it is, it's very intense, they aren't as wide as a tsx, tl or s2k projector but it works, i've been using this setup for almost 5 years now and no complaints. I had to do minimum cutting to fit it in my headlights

Shaeff "educated" me once. Not mad at you bro. I will look into it when I get the money...and the parts. But as for your question about mounting the ballasts:

I took my lights out, looked at the opening real good, and the brackets (which fitted loose around the ballast) and just decided to zip tie them to back of the bumper support - like a few other guys. There's some holes (one small, one big) in the support where you'll put the ties through. A good light (headband light) will be your best friend right now.

Get some nice sized ties if your bracket dosen't hold it well, (use two on each if you have to) and they'll hold fine. They got a little wet in the snow, but that's about it. Unless you run into a big puddle or something, They won't get soaked.

Meh, that conversion doesn't do it for me. In my opinion, the best looking low profile setup is the NSX popups. When done properly, they look like they belong on the car. I'm trying to figure out a way to use the FX projectors in the NSX lights cut to a shallower depth to avoid cutting the core support.

I know bro! that's why I'm on this forum. You guys can tell me stuff I NEVER WOULDA KNOWN otherwise. But you know what Shaeff? That NSX popup idea is the best idea i've heard for our cars besides flush mounts! They look good, have hi and lo beams seperate, and WOULD look good on Supras, they look almost like Ferrari Testarossa flip-ups imo. And we ALL know THEY look real good.
