for those of you running HID's that aren't quite working right.

my problem is a hi/lo control box that's malfunctioning. when i switch to high beam it refuses to switch to low beam unless i toggle the switch a couple times (most was about 10). other times i can pop the hood and tap on the box with a handle of a screwdriver to encourage it to switch. sometimes this works and sometimes not (tap on the front and sides).

has anyone taken this box apart and is there any way to rewire the control box to get reliable hi/los? i removed mine and took the back off of it (4 small philips screws) to find what looks like a black epoxy or sealer that's been poured in on top of the electronics. that's as far as i got before deciding that this ain't worth me trying to teach myself electrical theory (that class is next semester).

so i'm thinking about shipping the whole mess down to my uncle to figure out, he's been pretty good at solving these issues. i'll keep my progress posted in this thread if i can ever scrape together the time to ship it down to him or give him a call and have him walk me through it.

please post your troubles/solutions and we might be able to turn this into something.

it's been a long time but i'm now able to sit down and work on this some (got laid off of my part-time job). we removed the silicone/potting compound off around the relays in the hi/lo control box. i found the website (golden electronics in china) and have the spec sheets for all three relays (two are alike). i've been able to match up one relay closely in the digi-key book but the other is rated at 15 amps, and i can only find a 5 amp one close enough in the catalog (omron looks like they make what i need). i'll take some good pictures and post the links for both the relay spec sheets and the digi-key relays later this week.

My hid kit seems to only work one way Lo beams only. When i got it only the high beams would work then i was told to swap the spades on the connector now my low beams work but my high beam (halogen bulb) doesnt come on and if it does its very dim.

Sigh. After mine burn out again (lost one ballast out of four), I'm ditching them for good. Cheap chinese HID's FTL.

I'll be doing an OEM retrofit. (this is on my Pickup, not my Supra) OEM retro, quality aftermarket, or stick to Halogens.

Maybe this might be of some use when it comes to ballast.

i have oem hid system out of like a 06 tsx work great and are bright as hell.

TSX projectors are great. Even better if you get the clear lenses instead of the fresnel. :) I prefer the FX35 Infiniti projectors myself. Bi-xenon FTW!

Ok so now i have another problem id like to bring up.

Has more to do with fog lights, however my fog lights dont turn on anymore after installing my HID's they are low beam (HID) high beam (halogen) however i had to swap the spades on the connector to get the lows to work (losing High Beams in the process). To make it easier to understand.

Came like this however when installed only high beams would work

Did this and the low beams worked but the high beams didnt.

Went to install my foglights back on the car (been driving with them out for about a month) when i went to turn them on they didnt work. It worked before i did the HID conversion so i need some help to get them to work with it.

Also would doing a rewire help get these working since w/o doing it the foglights only come on when the headlights are on?

Help would be appreciated
Thanks

yes, doing the foglight rewire should enable you to switch between lows and highs.

Anyone know of a Lexus bi-xenon projector we could use? That would let us use the fantastic discount we get from Champion / Vancouver Toyota...
