Has anybody bought an HID conversion kit for their supra? I'm not talking about buying the bulbs that are blue or white or whatever. The real HID, with real HID bulbs and ballasts and the whole 9 yards. I've thought about doing it, but i'm not sure how much of a difference it would make. I've driven tons of cars with factory HID and it's outstanding lighting, but I'm unsure of conversion kits.

that's what i was worried about, the projectors. is there a headlight upgrade that has projector headlights or does it need to be fabbed up?
you pretty much have to fab somethig up, with the dot approved projector, oem ballast and bulb, with some DOT approved headlight housings, this is the closest thing you can get near to lega, a lot of the aftermarket hids are illegal
HID kits are nothing without the projector housing WITH the built in cutoffs.
That is unless you are an asshole that loves to glare all over the damn road in which case may you and your car get t-swiped by a big rig.

Hella 90mm or 50mm Projector. They cost a pretty penny but both are about the ONLY aftermarket projectors that are DOT approved.

I bought Hella glass housings for $85 and then bought a HID kit off ebay for $65. I made a shield to block any light from going downwards ( cause the light that goes down in the housing gets reflected up) and it has come out nice.

i'm with clueless, i had a set of HIDS and hella e-codes. Used them for a little while and the high/low controller stopped working. haven't gotten the issue taken care of so they're sitting on the workbench and my silverstars are back in. can't say i dont miss them though, i loved the things til they stopped working right.

hey if you dont want to do the conversion on projectors and just want a PNP HID system, i would go with a hella ecode housing and the brightest heat which would be the 4300 but i went with the 5000k heat for oem look,
if you want a projector type the cleanest look is the NSX housings w/ OE HID's but its costly!

The reason HID's are not supposed to be sold to consumers is because HID's require (that means MANDATORY) the cut off. No cut off = blind every one because I am an asshole and did not do it right.

Same happened here and was never resolved (from the same person no less). Apparently the relay box is not weatherproof and I should have shrink wrapped it, after one night of driving in the rain it shorted and melted my high beam mechanism wiring. Good thing I bought two sets so I could also use the wiring and mismatched heat range bulbs to get at least one good matching set. You get what you pay for. :cry:
