NP ;). If you lived closer, I'd just give you the big one I have, but like I said, you have to cut it open to baffle it, then reweld it shut, or think of a way to make it where you can take the top on and off and still have a perfect seal...
Thanks for the offer but i have negative welding skills :3d_frown:

Fuzz: If you're considering using a real cooler don't forget a T Stat :)

at the expense of sounding like a noob this is a t-stat proprietary to the oil cooler?

I've heard from a very respectable member on here that the Mocal t-stat is a good one, 180* IIRC...

yeah if you could find out that would be cool. i loved my hawk pads too. i couldnt tell you how many pads ive tried to find some i like. i found another set of pads that were awesome to replace the hawks. i went to reorder, and sadly, no longer offered those either.

t-stat is universal. you just have to match the inlet and outlet sizes to the inlet of the cooler or you have to use adapters. the cooler i showed you was 1/2 npt, so ideally you'd get a t-stat that is 1/2 npt so you could match everything.

they own hawk. why would they recomend another competitor?

If you read a little closer (the linky) you will see... I was told that hawk doesn't make pads for the mk3... I would have purchased them if they did..

Yes, the t-stat will recirculate the oil back into the engine and not let it into the oil cooler until the designated temp. has been reached, 180* is your best bet here. The purpose of it is to get the oil warmed up as quick as possible, then maintain the oil at it best area of operating temp by then opening up and allowing the oil to flow into the cooler.
