Hi there.
I've been in the Supra world for some time now, I joined SOGI in 1996. I just finished swapping in a 1987 7M-GTE and R154 transmission into my 1989 NA 5 speed car. It was a long haul, but the engine is in and running.
A few upgrades along the way, the engine was overhauled, and there's now a set of ARP studs holding down the head at 90 ft-lbs torque. With luck, that'll keep a BHG at bay, until I decide to replace the head with something with a little more oomph.
Along the way, I bought another head, which I intend to have ported and polished, maybe some oversized valves, and get the cams reground, but that's when I can afford to do it.
During the overhaul process, I bought a Lexus AFM, and some 550cc injectors, which are totally going to waste as the stock CT-26 is pumping away at stock boost levels. (Nope, I haven't even shimmed the wastegate.)
A previous owner of the '87T that donated my new engine and transmission was an idiot, and there were several things about the engine that I was unhappy with. It's a good thing that I decided to overhaul the engine, or I'd be very unhappy with it right now. The head gasket was (of course) gone, it looks like for at least the second time. Whoever did it before omitted certain "unneccessary" parts like the valve spring seats. Also though there was a fairly nice clutch in the car (Upgraded pressure plate) the person who put it in seemed to have decided that a pilot bearing wasn't actually needed. Yeesh.
Obviously boost control is coming up in the near future, followed closely by an upgraded intercooler. Probably hardpipes, too. I'm also considering an HKS SSQV, but while I'm running an AFM, I want to have the recirculation fitting on it, too. Fortuinately, the SSQV offers that as an option. I'll also need to get a better flowing exhaust in there sometime too. That might even come first...
Once that's taken care of, the plan is to upgrade the turbo. I've been thinking that a 54 or maybe 57 trim upgrade to the CT26 would work well. I'm not looking for over-the-top performance, but "fun to drive" is definitely a goal.
Suspension upgrades will also be forthcoming, but how those will intersperse with engine performance upgrades is unknown. I plan on at least a set of sway bars and new struts. I don't know if I want to lower the car, what with the streets around here, but I do want decent handling.
