Hey everyone, auto tranny help please

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Don. A friend told me about this site.
Was wondering if someone may be able to help me.
I have a 1987 toy supr turbo, with auto trans. 4spd, it shifts from first to overdrive. if I manually shift from first to second, it shifts from first to fourth. When this first happend the overdrive light started flashing. I tried to read the codes using the overdrive light, by shorting the diagnostic terminals from E1 to T1. The overdrive light would not flash to give me a normal code or a malfunction code. This problem is intermittent. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Bad auto tranny computer or solenoids ? Computer is located behind the passenger side kick panel.
Look up the proper testing method for the tranny ecu in the toyota manual.

You need to jump TT and E1 and NOT EI and T1. (E1-T1 is for engine diagnostics)

Unplug the trans and see if it still does that.
