89 supra 7mge bought it with a bad headgasket and just put a new one on it after its been sitting for a year and a half. I've have the following problems: when you first hit the gas fairly sudden it pauses then kicks in also it dies sometimes when you hit the gas sudden. When driving it runs fairly smooth but has random points where it studders. Temp gauge stays under half but the car feels like it is running at 6500rpm when it only shows it at 4000rpm. It idles at 800rpm and starts right up everytime. Still smoking white smoke dont know if its from coolant still in the exhaust or the pauses and hesitation. Would bad gas cause this to happen? Looking for any suggestions or comments.

did you have the head checked out? are you still running the same gas that was in the car or have you filled up because there could be water in the fuel that could cause that. the white smoke could be from the water sitting in the cat. prob the best think to do is to had some heet to the fuel and go drive it see if the smoke disapates and if it smooths up. ether one could be the issue since you dont know how the previous owner drove it with the bad head gasket. and considering how long it sat it could be watered down gas

Details on the head gasket job? Did you go with a stock HG or metal, and did you have the head and/or block machined?

Like the guy above, I'm also wondering if you drained the tank and re-filled with new gas....but I would say if you haven't done that yet, do it now before driving it any further. The EVAP system, assuming it's working, can take care of some water (to a point), but you don't know what other crap might be in there...

Also, are you getting any codes?
