well ive been wondering if i had the right set up on my turbo actuator hose. i drew a pix to the best of my ability, which are not that good, showing how i have mine set up. this is how i had the set up ever since i had my car. its a 1990.

NO, NO, NO. I hope you haven't ran your car yet like that.

The actuator vacuum tubing hooks up to the turbo, and the vac line on the bottom of the accordion hose/intake goes to the PPS valve on the on the power steering pump. Let me find some pics quick.

EDIT: Here is what the actuator should look like when hooked up correct. You should be able to figure it out from here.

i have tryed it that way for a bit and i only get like 2psi of boost. and with the way i showed in the pix gives me full boost. the turbo doesent make any odd sounds like compresion surge or nothing like that. thats why i find this wierd and have to idea. mabye could be a bad turbo?, my shaft play is realy minimal, maybe could be a bad actuator?

There are several things that could cause that. Could be a bad actuator...you're seeing more boost with this wrong set-up because the actuator isn't seeing any pressure from the turbo so it's staying closed. You can test the actuator per TSRM. Also would be a good idea to check for boost leaks.

But I agree you need to hook everything up stock. I don't know what damage, if any, could be caused by pumping pressurized air into that power steering valve like you're doing...but I doubt it's a good idea, especially since the valve will most likely be closed when you're boosting.

k im done taking out the actuator, and tested it. it fully opens around 7 -8 psi. i remember long ago when i it was realy cold out side and engine was hot i was looking around the hot end of the turbo while it was running and could see the steam was coming out from the lever that the actuator is connectid to, i was thinking if that could be it, but not that much came out. every boost hose look good, no leaks all clamps are good.

So it sounds like exhaust is leaking out your wastegate at idle? If so your wastegate isn't closing properly, and is a likely cause of your problem. You won't build full boost if the wastegate is cracked too far open.

Also, a visual once-over isn't enough when you're checking for boost leaks. A hose may look fine but still won't hold pressure. Building a boost leak tester (instructions can be found here on the forum) is the best way to check things out.

the hot side of the turbo has a half inch crack inside from the wastegate hole inside. i noticed it when i rebuild the turbo when i first got the car. but still i made full boost when it was cracked. im doing what u said about making a leak tester and i will be done with in 24 hours. its just wierd that even if i had a boost leak and had the hoses how i had it set up in the pix i still made full boost, with no fuel cuts. ima get back to this testing, i realy need to feel boost again :(

ya its the stock downpipe. ima check it out. thanks. o and also the actuator lever hits the downpipe so it doesent open all the way. is that how it should work??
