My car is doing something at low rpm (idle), the mechanic says I should get a fuel preassure regulator. I wanna order one online, can you guys point me to one? Engine is a stock 1JZ-GTE 5-spd.

Thank you so much in advance!!

Ok, I'm going to try: it's making little "pops" every few seconds. It's just an instant pop, the RPM's lower a bit (maybe 100rpm?) for a fraction of a second but then they get back to where they were. According to him, with a fuel preassure regulator to increase the fuel, would fix this.

Popping is usually an ignition misfire.
Check all the connectors for the coil packs. Make sure they are not cracking or falling apart.
Check your plugs and gapping. Use NGK 6097 plugs gapped at 28 thou...
Check your TPS adjustment. Set it to spec as per TSRM ( you can use the MKIV tsrm to see how to adjust)

Can you provide me with a link to buy it online?
I went to driftmotion.com and found some stuff that looked like what you're talking about, but it didn't include the regulator itself, or so I recall just reading. I'm not good with this stuff, it would be great if I'm told exactly what to buy and where from!! =) Sorry for being a noob!

I did change all plugs to those NGK 6097 yesterday. By "connectors for the coil packs" you mean spark plug wires? Sorry, my english is bad.

Well you don't technically have Spark plug wires. You have a 1jZ so the coils fits on top of the plugs, The wires that go to the coil is what I am talking about.

PS: Your English is fine....

+1, it's ignition, not fuel.

To all the guys who said the problem was ignition: it turns out it was, like my mechanic said, lack of fuel. When we choked the return fuel line, the popping stopped. It turns out my car had the original fuel pump (7M-GE originally). It now has the proper one, and the popping is gone... just thought I'd let you guys know in case anyone has this problem one day.

funny you mention that. My car does the same thing. I know it's the fuel pump too. I just got around to ordering all of the fittings to put my Bosch 044 in today, after living with it for months.

Everyone will recommend an aeromotive FPR. They are very good. If you want a little more of an OEM look, HKS sells adjustable fuel pressure regulators for a decent price (surprising considering it's HKS). They don't look like much, but they are good quality units.

Bump. Is there a problem with running the NA fuel pump with a 1jz swap? It won't pump enough fuel? Dies quickly?

NA pumps cannot flow enough for Boosted motors especially if you're running higher that factory boost with mods. walbro's are cheap and take about 45mins-1hr to put in, less if u have access to a lift.

IIRC, the part numbers are the same for NA and Turbo models.

Hmm, i am having the popping issue also. Only happens under low rpms. Over 1700 you don't feel it, but if you are cruising down the street at like 1500 or lower, it lurches a bit every about 2-5 seconds. Kinda annoying. I have a car that was originally a turbo auto. At idle it pops about every 5 seconds, just drops the rpms about 100, like the guy who started the thread. Would a new fuel pump be suggested?

Is the Bosch 044 just for people going for more then 500hp? Is it more reliable. I thought the walbros were kinda the standard.
IMO, Bosch is more reliable than Walbro. Bosch is used as an OEM pump in a lot of cars. The 044 is a big pump (340lph), but they do have smaller ones, like the 040. I believe the 044 is OEM in a lot of the newer porsches.

Walbros are the standard mainly just because they're so cheap. They're not BAD pumps, but they're also not the best. I just have a personal vendetta against Walbro pumps, and will never use them.
