Pretty much as the title states.. going fairly smoothly, then theres a bad sounding noise.. another pump up and then my friend just says 'HOLY SHIT" as the boom on the engine hoist has bent down about 2 inches. ANYONE ever have this happen? I need help/advice immediately. I lowered it trying to get it back onto the mounts, but because of the bend it won't come close. The engine hoist was already just about right up to my bumper.

wow, you are gonna have to support the engine from underneath and get it off the hoist.. then replace the hoist with a good one. id put as much wood as i could under the oilpan to support the engine.

i believe. I've lifted my engine with tranny connected various times in and out of my
engine bay and its never bent.
But try dropping your motor in from the side...
My problem is my hoise wont reach far enough to drop/pull my motor
from the front bumper, i have to go in from the side.

Also If going in from the side doesnt work take off your front bumper.
Its not that hard really, only a few bolts, just look at the tsrm so your not tugging
and pulling looking for the last bolts.
It's a 2 ton jack, and was in the 1/2 ton slot. It's lifted a big block out before, so idk how this was too much. It was just about to clear and be good to go when it was noticed. Where in the TSRM is the body parts? I am not seeing it. Can I take off enough to slide the engine and tranny straight out without lifting it much more?
Go to Harbor Freight, get the 2 Ton lift for $180, problem solved, just support the engine with whatever you can in the mean time. I personally own the 2 ton version with fold-able legs and it worked perfect not to mention takes up very little space.
lol.. the engine has rod knock and a BHG... I can't really afford to just go buy ANOTHER hoist. this one is fine. It's just the arm that slides in and out(boom) that is bent. Idk if I can buy another or not though. Might try and borrow just a boom from another hoist and support the engine and switch it out but maybe slid in more.
I am really interested in how much I can remove from the front. Can I get a straight shot out of the engine bay or not? Never seen a stripped Supra. Waking up early tomorrow and hoping to get this remedied before I go to work at 10pm.. hah.
If I can remove enough to lift it just barely and slide it out, that would be cool. I was thinking I could cut the bent part of the boom and slide it all the way into the hoist. Then just do it from the side after I repositioned the car.

well just a replacement boom won't really help you as it needs to be for your lift most likely. Given yours has failed once, why risk it again and do serious damage to your chassis and or engine?

Only thing you have to do really is undo the bolts around the wheelwell up untill the panel.
Then theres a 2 big bolts.
If you look at your drive side head light, theres a little space in between your overflow tank and the headlight.
Look down in there and you should see a big reinforcement truss with a big bolt going through it.
(These bolts are tough to get to)
Take it out and take the other one out.
After doing so you should beable to slide your bumper out/off
Just make sure you took the bolts off the wheel well partially.
Dont rip it off cause when you pull it off there will be wires connected still such as
fogs/headlights etc.
Ugh.. I think my friend has a welder? hah. Will the boom on the hoist snap or just bend to a full 90 degrees and beyond? Is it fixable? My friends redneck dad is coming over soon I think. Hoping he has some crazy idea to at least get it out or back on the mounts. I don't care if the engine gets destroyed, I am not using it, already have one on a stand not too far from the car, hah.. I woke up and had to deal with the internet dying for some reason and not working until after they shipped out a new modem. I was hoping for a "Just take off a bumper and you can take it right out".
If I unbolt the tranny, and just go as fast as possible what are my chances of getting the motor out before the hoists boom becomes unusable?
And does anyone know if a standard garage is strong enough to just punch a hole in the ceiling and use a chain and pulley? haha

It will prolly bend to a point and then snap. I would not continue to use it.
If you were lifting the tranny and engine with the hoist on 1/2 your way past its limit. Should have been on 1 ton. Its a little harder since you cant get the boom out all the way but its still doable.

i always got my harbor freight hoists for 99 bux... no major issues other then the boom on the hoist being short
No harbor freight around. No way to make the 160 mile trip to one with a engine hoist coming along on the way back. You are telling me that the engine and tranny weighs over 1000 pounds? What's the engine, like 475 or something I think? Since the boom was in the 1/2 ton slot.. theres like 3-4 feet of boom unbent. If I did just cut it and dropped it all the way that it would go in, that would be probably nearish the ton slot? I WOULD need to use it from the side of the car or something then... and how would I move the engine hoist to the side, or move the car away from the hoist? I would need to lift it way up and wiggle it around to get the tranny out and the back the hoist up? Or should I just unbolt the tranny?

The motor itself is only about 450-500lbs complete.
And the tranny is around 100lbs, i can easily pack my tranny around by hand
so its not that heavy...
Right now we need to get as much weight off that boom as possible.
So try to unhook the tranny from the motor,
How to:

Remove Clutch fork
Remove Driveshaft
Take out the 4 bolts around the tranny(Top 2 bolts are a bitch)
(Be sure to have a jack or something under the tranny incase it falls, a jack works.)
So now we've removed some weight and we will have better leverage.
If you can, move that boom back 1 slot and try to pull the motor out itself.
Make sure you have someone with you and have them watch that boom, if it starts
to bend at ALL, lower it back down immediately. No reason to have that motor drop and
crush something inside your engine bay.

The boom had cracked. We are removing the tranny... the clutch fork on the r154 just pulls out? Sort of only getting a couple hours a night to do anything, but the tranny is about off.. removed some more crap and went and got a bunch more tools yesterday. Including a huge pulley to hang from a living oak in my back yard.. just not going to like pushing it through the grass and over stumps all the way there. That's just incase however, because I might be able to get a boom(steel with holes drilled where they were) from this guy. If not, there is apparently a steel shop about 20 minutes away I can get one made at. Engine is sort of on engine mounts now, and tranny is held up with 2 jacks with only a clutch fork holding it on. Hoping to have the engine out tonight since after the tranny is detached, my friends dad will probably make me climb a tree with the heavy ass pulley. Then I get to go work another 9 hours overnight :-D
