Hi, need some help. Kinda a newb. Had to do alot of driving today and felt like the car was missing some power....seemed mostly that the boost hp was missing, PSI was there but just not the torque she usually has. Actually seemed to spool up ok but bogged down around 5,000 rpm. Also, at an idle, revs would produce a little white smoke from exhaust....none while driving. Everything else was ok, idled smooth, no noise etc. One thing else I'll mention is the last couple days it's been wanting to stall at low speed deceleration. It would stall or almost stall then come back up to a smooth idle. Ok, so I got home today after driving all day, car sat for maybe 3 hrs....went to use it again and started like crap, sounds ruff, like running on 4-5 cylinders and a lot of white smoke. Didn't try to drive the car but out of gear the white smoke is on revs, not at idle. Also today boost controller worked fine now getting er5 flashing. Would bad turbo cause it to run bad before boost?

No bubbles in radiator, no oil in water or water in oil.

Engine:
New pistons and rings
New rod and main bearings
Head and Block resurfaced
Cometics Metal Head Gasket
ARP Head Studs
All new seals
New water pump
New timing belt
New hoses
MK4 Motor Mounts

Exhaust:
Upgraded CT with HKS 57 Trim GT Wheel that's been clipped
3" BIC down pipe with wideband o2 bung
3" RSR exhaust

Fuel:
LEX AFM
550 cc injectors
Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator
Walbro 255 fuel pump
New fuel filter
SAFC NEO fuel tuner
AEM Trueboost gauge and boost controller
Hard pipes

I have only own the car for about 4-5 months. The mod list is from previous owner who did not do the rebuild so specs on pistons, rings etc is unknown to me. There is a "replaced timimg belt" sticker on car with date 3/4/11/133k miles. Dont think the rebuild was done then tho cause oil was dirty when I got it and odometer reads 135k now.

Changed plugs, wires and coil-pack harness since I've had it. Ran fantastic till today.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

Well I just took my wife out who has better eyes than me and now there's hardly any smoke, looks white tho. Earlier, large puffs of smoke were coming out only on acceleration....not at an idle. Still running like crap. Haven't checked anything other than a visual on plug wires and turbo/IC pipes. Pulled a couple plugs....looked normal to me but I'm no mechanic. If it were a BFG wouldn't it have gone from good to bad rather than good to slight loss of power to sitting a couple hrs and then crap?

Can turbo be ruled out since its not just under boost or no?

Thanks for the reply

Turbo seals will leak whether you are boosting or not if it's bad enough. I'd do the compression check, check codes, double check all your intake pipes/vacuum lines/etc, and go from there.

Just to conclude this thread. o2 (21) and knock sensor (52) codes when I first checked. Cleared codes and none came back. I removed the vacuum lines and blew them out into hose and manifold. Car runs fine now (kind of) with no smoke. Boost PSI is fine but boost HP is not still. Other than that it runs good. Have a new IC in the mail so will have it dyno tuned after i install that. Thanks for the guidance
