Okay everybody, I'm rebuilding my 7M-GTE and I will need a new clutch while its out. For now, my power plans are going to be BPU, and up no more than 400hp in the future. I want something full-faced so it isn't a bitch to drive (stop-go traffic, parking ramps, dates, etc.), but also strong enough to be reliable (for quite a long time) at 300-350ish hp. I also would like to do it without spending too much money, less than $500, preferably less than $400.

Three clutches in particular seem right for me, but I'm not 100% what to expect from them.
Spec Stage 1: Seems good, but worried it may not be strong enough for my power goals.
Spec Stage 2: No doubt it'll hold well, but I've heard horror stories about reliability.
Centerforce Dual-Friction: Also seems it's fit to hold the power, but I'm worried about longevity, the 1-2 reviews I found while searching were mixed.

And one last clutch that I didn't find anything on, South Bend, are they any good? They're cheap...

Thanks for the help!

I had a Spec II in my fox body. It dynoed at 325hp at the tires and 345 trq. I loved that clutch. Very well mannered on the street but Loved the 6grand clutch dumps at the drag strip probally had 12k street driving and over 60 passes at the track. Still performed the same every time. Just my opinion and I know its not the same kind of car but similar power.

For 350whp go with a stock Toyota disk and an upgraded pressure plate.
I was running 400+ whp on a stock disk for a while with no problems.
Agreed - for this level, you should only need to upgrade one part or the other. I went the other route with an upgraded disc - the HPF full faced Feramic - and a stock PP.

I just ordered the centerforce dual friction!! heard some great things, also about longetivity! :)

I bought a well used one in a pinch, thinking I'd just use it for a month or two but I've put over 10k miles on it with no problems yet. It's definitely not the best clutch but FWIW it has handled it's first owner and my car at 300lbs/ft++.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, looks like I'm going to rule out the centerforce, it seems to have a relatively short lifespan. I guess I just have one question left, what do people know about the South Bend clutches? I've found basically no feedback on them.
