Actually, did it tell you to disable the memory options? If so, when you restart your computer, you should be able to either press tab or delete (depending on the bios) and it'll take you there. Then just poke around (don't change anything) until you find the memory options and disable caching and shadowing and whatever else there may be

Derk, this is my moms comp, so I dunno whats been added, but the last time I was here, it was working fine... It actually JUST rebooted after I posted this... Its frustrating, because I have A.D.D. and usually have 4 or more windows open at once... So when it closes out, I lose everything...

So what do I do? Restart and then hit tab, then what will I be looking for?

Ok first, if it's some kind of store bought computer it'll have a splash screen with the computer maker's logo most likely as soon as you boot it up. On that screen it should say "hit tab" or "hit delete" ..."to enter setup" or something along those lines.

So find out which it is and hit it...a couple times hehe. Then it'll take you to a menu based operating system. Then just sort of look around until you find a section that talks about memory. (follow the onscreen instructions so you are able to navigate through the menus without changing things that don't need to be changed)

Then when you find something that talks about memory and has something like..

caching...[enabled]
shadowing...[enabled]

or anything that looks like that, disable it all. Then exit back through the menus, then go "save and exit" ...See if that works first, since that's what the BSOD said do

there will be fuck all options in the compaq BIOS, if reinstalling windows dosent do it its probably a failed component, try swaping some different ram in, if its not that its defintly not the first dead compaq mainboard and defintly not the last!

So far reign; sounds right. You will need to check every locale in order to find it. Normally; it is pretty hidden.

Yeah, it'll take some close inspection to find it.

Check this page out, it's not really helpful, but it lets you know what's happening, haha. I hate computer problems, they're really hard to help someone with unless you're there looking at it.

But try to find the memory section in the BIOS again, if you absolutely can't find anything dealing with memory there, then start updating drivers...( go to the start meun, settings, control panel. then find the "system" icon, and look for hardware manager. Once there, update video driver, sound driver, chipset driver and then see if that works)

I gotta head out, sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Good luck solving it!

Thanks Derk, I'll try that...

ONBOARD LAN .... ENABLED
ONBOARD LAN boot ROM... DISABLED
ONBOARD VIDEO MEMBORY... AUTO

does any of that help?

Did that help any Derk? I dunno, I give up... I dont know what to do... I cant get into any memory stuff... None of the hints from SF helped either... I dunno how to update drivers or find drivers or drive a driver driving down the driveway... All I know about computers is how to log onto SM and look at porn... Im useless... :(
