Hey whats goin on I'm currently lookin to do a little project on my car and my goals are 450-500 alright so here is what I have an 88 with 185,xxx with a w58, 60-1, 2.5 piping, fmic, hks bov, f-con, fcd, warbro 255lph, 3in exhaust turbo back, test pipe, and all these parts are currently installed on the car running stock boost.

So I have a friend with a motor that has never over heated or spun a bearing or anything like that and I was thinkin about gettin that and replacin the bearings, oil pump, and mhg, and with the transmission not sure what I want to do with that cuz I know the w58 isnt nearly as strong a the r-154 but they are so expensive and the you have to buy a nice clucth kit and light flywheel so basically not sure if it will handle what I want and what I plan on adding to the motor is lex afm and 550's and cranking the boost up ohh and safc so lmk what yall think I'm open to suggestions and opinions.

thanks
Michael

thanks
Michael

the w58 wont last long at 500rwhp

185k is a lot of miles even if you do replace that stuff. stock pistons should be fine but i dont know about pistons with 185k on them lol.

my advice would be to get a lower mileage motor. You can find them for pretty cheap and you will save money in the long run. and upgrade that tranny if you are planning on launching:naughty: at all

A couple of things:
1) Multiple threads asking the same question are not allowed - do not do this again.
2) If you want your questions answered, how about using sentences and decent spelling to describe the problem.
3) Go to the Intro section and read the stickies before you post again...especially "How to Search" and "Dealing with the Old School guys".

BTW - there is no such thing as a "turbo rear"...there are LSD and open differentials. Either will work with a turbo car, but the LSD is the better option.

I would get your motor rebuilt. Have it checked out by a machine shop and get it done with some forged pistons. The MK4 W58 is the same tranny with different bell housing, get a R154!! I would also get some sort of tuning computer too.

so, whats the question? if you are asking if your current setup will get you there, no.

if you want to know what will, you need a 61mm+ turbo with a fuel system.

you can buy a bolt on turbo, but quite a bit of money. you can get a new manifold, wastegate, new downpipe, ic pipes, etc. again, quite a bit of money.

you can redrill the t4 to bolt onto the stock manifold, but you would still need the other things.

honestly, if you think a r154 is expensive to get, you probably don't want to get into the money involved just yet.

well fromj what I was told the turbo was built with garrett internals about 3000miles ago and yeah most likely I'm goin with the r-154 and I already have ic pipes and fmic.

So where I'm at now I'm goin to get a jdm with new pistons and bearings and oil pump and mhg and the correct fuel management and as of right now I think my w58 is goin down the toilet as we speak it has an odd squel when I get passed 3000rpm so I think it about to take a crap on me anyways.

thanks

my question is will my setup plus a good motor and tranny, lex afm, 575s, safc allow me to make 450-500 to the wheels

thanks

What are some good pistons that would allow me to make these goals.

thanks

Ohh and one more thing how much power can the stock rods handle.

thanks again

ive seen people make 400ish rw on the turbo you are running. but you arent going to see 450-500rw.

stock pistons are fine. stock rods are fine.

a good condition stock motor with careful tuning will be fine for what you want to do. forged this and that will not compensate for a car built with cut corners nor poor tuning.
