Both engines are good for me in the end they will end up costing the same. I know they have lots more parts for 2JZ's than 7m's. If they stop making 7M parts then I'm stuck. What to do? All comments are welcome.:1zhelp:

If you've got a lot of parts for the 2j, than it's a no-brainer.

The 2jz is certainly a more complicated swap, but it's a newer more modern, more durable design. Nothing wrong with the 7m, but let's face it, given the choice I think most people would opt for the 2jz. If you're not a skilled mechanic and very familiar with both the MkIII and the 2jz than it's going to be a challenge.

I've kicked around the idea of going 2jz, only thing that makes me think twice is the electrics and bits and pieces that need to be replaced to make the swap possible.

if you seriously got to ask if a 2jz is better than a 7m you must not know much mechanically a 2j well always be better than a 7m i dont care how much work you put in to a 7m dollar for dollar a 2j well make more power,be more reliable, and youll get more bang for you buck::dead horse::

Not quite as many of the 2J parts are more expensive. (as mentioned by Rajuns when he was building the Maverick)

To the OP: Do you have a 2J? Do you have a 7M? It depends 100% on what you're working with here as to which one is cheaper.

Myself, I had the 7MGTE that was in the car and everything to go with it. I spent less fixing the 7M then an engine swap would have costed when all the little stuff is added up...

i dont think u have to really worry about parts being discontinued for the 7m. the MK3 chassis YES! but the motor no. there will always be parts avaialble, factory or aftermarket.

as for choice, it should be 2j by a landslide. overall peace of mind and power out the box is no comparison to a 7m. what u would build ur 7m to handle powerwise (most likely ~500HP) the stock 2j will sneeze at with almost stock twins.

But with the present state of JDM import engines, it still a gamble like going 1J...

i would think buy a 1j head and harness so its almost plug and play and just simply bolt on a 2j bottom a brand new block with internal only runs between $1,900 and $2,300

Put your 2j in and come see me !!!! I'm not knocking either motor I have made plenty of power on both... come see me, and we will take a trip to the track along with every other ignorant @#$t and we will see how it turns out... To say
the 7m F'n suck is plane ignorance... Last time I checked all of the fastest cars
on this board are 7m powered.... I don't like threads like this....

I actually love my 7M, but i recently decided to go 2JZ. To built a 7M the way I would have wanted it (The right way) parts only would have been in the $3200 range without labor and machine shop. So easily in the 4000+ range for an 7M that can take an abuse. But I would always have that worry in the back of my mind, that something could give at anytime. Maybe I would be wrong.

A 2JZ swap on the other hand will actually cost me less than building a 7M beleive it or not, even less when I sell my 7M parts. Most of the misc items that usually add up, I already have. I built my set-up by first upgrading everything surrounding my 7M. But the key thing for me is that once tuned, all I will need to worry about is checking my oil. I can pound it as much as I can. A stock internal 2JZ with supporting mods will do 600-700 all day long and you will enjoy boosting it.

Another thing that sold me the other day was IJ saying in a thread that if he had to do it all over again, he would have gone 2J :biglaugh:
