HELP! lamp failure light after kouki tail light swap

hello all, i have an 87 car in which i just installed the jdm kouki tail lights, ever since then the lamp failure light comes on only when the parking or headlights are on.

all lights checked out fine, but to my understanding there is a few different colored lamp failure modules out there? mine is the yellow one, could it just be that i dont have the right colored box?

if anyone can shed some light on this, itd be greatly appreciated. thanks

I'm just gonna bypass mine.. the dash-light always comes on when there's moisture in the air and even at really random times, but the bulbs all seem fine.

No get the same colored box as what you have. Just get a good used one. Prolly just decieded to take a shit on you at the same time you did the install.

Your also like the 2nd or 3rd person ive seen use the kouki shit on here lol. Thats more 240 and wierd ebay seller stuff.

Meh, assuming it's OK just open it and calibrate (change the resistor) to the wattage and number of lamps used.

tried another yellow one i had and still the same. and as far as the kouki thing goes, rice is not what im all about.

Try a 89+ one then. I think there white or blue. Cant remember.

Never had that issue when i switched on my 88.

Wrong, my 87 turbo came with a yellow box..

OP, I am assuming you didnt replace the taillight gaskets when you put the new tails on? Probably leaking. Mine are doing the same.

Ya my old 88 had a yellow one too.

I think 89+ is white.

I'm just going off of what Ive seen. my 88 turbo parts car came with a white box. I can't tell ya if it was the right box though..

But my 90 wingless came with a yellow box and it was the right box.

and yeah i replaced the gaskets, either way i havent washed it yet so its not water.

The taillight failure box has nothing to do with pre 89 or 89+ taillights, the box color depends on the 3rd brake light and they're all plug and play..

now the real issue can be a socket has corrosion on it, or bearly making contact, as you do have to swap over the 89+ bulb holders. Please check those before you go spending money on parts you don't need.

It's amazing how people can turn something so simple into rocket science. The markings on the box alone are enough to make any of them work and even without those they can be calibrated to a particular load.

i installed all brand new bulbs, cleaned and put dielectric grease on all connections when i did the install. so i dont know what else it could be other than the box.
