k...

Just got off the phone with Jeff Watson and he informed me that the '87 supra turbo had like 3 different engine wiring harnesses, even though they all used the same ECU.

What are the differences?

Can I use any harness from 88 and below?

I was under the assumption that I could.

I've got a JDM motor in my car that I'm not completely sure what year it came out of...I'm thinking later...but everything seemed to work with my harness...

Kinda confused here :1zhelp: :1zhelp:

I can adapt some wires around if I have to...I've already done it on my harness...I just need to know if there are any drastic differences...

apparently, there's an early 87, mid 87 and late 87-88 harness....

:aigo: :1zhelp:

As far as I know, Dev - all the 87-88's are interchangable. You won't have the same issues I had with the mid/late 89 crap. I'm guessin you're sick of this O2 sensor crap you're havin and want to replace of the whole damn thing huh?

might help,

you should be able to use any early 89 and lower models.

this is a guess but..there may have been 3 for the 87 since it was the first turbo year: 86.5 N/a to early 87, ma-71 turbo , and ma-70 turbo this again is a guess not really going from reliable information was just browsing online about the topic

early 89 won't work - it will mate up to the chassis harness fine, but there are different connectors for some of the engine sensors and all 89's used the newer ECU.

well, it goes up to 8/88, which would be the cutoff time between 88 and 89....

if I can use anything from an 88 and down for my 87 turbo, I think I'm gonna buy this harness today, I just need to be sure before I drop the money down on it and wind up with something that won't work.... :aigo:

the more responses I get to this, the better I'll feel!

so far this seems to be leaning towards my original idea: that I can use anything from 87-88....

well as for the JDM question - I'm sure when Jurgen put your engine in, he used as many parts from your USDM engine as possible, so I don't think that's an issue. I have a PM pending with one of the gurus that helped me with my harness.......I'll let you know what I hear........but you did post in one thread already regarding this and from what Jeff Watson himself said, the 87-88T 5speed harness is the same or are interchangable.

Well, I talked to Jeff on the phone and he asked me the production date of my car and then informed me that THAT particular harness was discontinued...but he can get a later '87 harness..... so I'm just trying to make 110% sure this is gonna work just fine :)

hey chris, wanna help me put it in if I get it? lol...it's cool if you don't...just figured...since you've been through about 18 different harnesses with your swap, you'd be pretty proficient at swapping them out...lol

ok, now I have a question, what if you're doing a turbo swap and you have a sub-'89 car, but you get newer engine? would all you need electronic-wise be a harness and ecu? does it hook up properly to the body harness?

well any 7mgte will work (6m or 7m crank) provided you use an 87-88 turbo harness (auto and manual have different harnesses) and an 87-88 ecu. there will be random sensors that will be different but most will be the same.....
