Don't want to start a new thread since my issue is similar...

Car ('89 n/a) failed to start when I left the store shopping over the holidays. Voltage showed 12V+ on the gauge and all acc worked great, but when I turned the key I noticed a massive voltage draw (everything goes dim, dash clock goes out, volt gauge dropped to ~6V) and there was nothing. No click or anything. After about 20 minutes of fiddling* with no change, I called my friend to bring some jumper cables and come pick me up. While I was waiting I tried cranking again a few more times for giggles and on about the 5th time, the darn thing started right up. WTH?!??

Anyone ever experience anything like this?

*Troubleshooting steps I took -

1. Locked/unlocked the car a few times (in case I tripped the factory alarm)
2. Checked battery connections and fuses
3. Turned off all accessories I could
4. Re-checked battery conenctions, alt connections, etc.
5. Bounced/rocked the car a few times (in case a wire connection was loose somewhere I couldn't see/reach)

Sorry I didn't get back to ya'll sooner. I decided to park the car and refocus on my T-bird for awhile (the devil I know). Just started back on project "Daily Driver Supra" again and the issue hasn't reappeared, but I did hear a ground short causing the speakers to crackle with the key out of the ignition so I pulled the radio. Thanks for the replies. If it comes back I'll let ya know. :)

Just because the battery reads 12.75v doesn't always mean it's good. And that still have surface charge on it. Check all the cells, if you have a refractometer then go ahead and check specific gravity on each cell, they should all be around 1,26 i believe. But tbo, it sounds like something other then that, you said you didn't get any voltage on that fuse, you can also check it with a DVOM for Ohm's. Usually about .6~ Ohm's resistance on a good fuse. Anything else would let you know it's no good. Remember you're dealing with 20+ year old harness.

are you 5 speed or auto? I have a similar problem and was told it was the starter. next time it happens, take out the key, put it in third and rock the car back and forth till you hear a click when pushing forward. pull the hand break, take it out of gear and try to start it. It works for me
