I just sold my AFM specific Apexi air filter. I was going to replace it with a universal apexi filter but I thought that maybe I should see if there was anything better to go with? The apexi almost seems a little small.. my eventual power goal is 400-425.

input?

K&N is actually crap...flows good, but doesn't catch dirt for squat.

Dry filters are the way to go...AEM is making a good synthetic media dry filter.

That test is really old and I suspect biased, but regardless, I'd still lean towards the Apex'i and/or a decent dry filter.

I have that HKS, and I'm pretty sure its a dry type, not wet.

Also, its not washable. I washed it and a bunch of little pieces of foam came off...wtf...fortunately its still "usable" though, not gigantic chunks or anything

Agreed, K&N is crap. Go with AEM. Best filtration and good flow you just can't beat that. I use it in all my cars including the 1J.

I've actually seen this test repeated several times over the years by different groups, with very similar results. Otherwise I'd be questioning the bias as well!

The best filter is paper...but it doesn't flow for crap.

The last test I saw was on an STi, and the HKS filter LOST power over the stock airbox, and overall the best one was the ARC airbox. Too bad finding one is a major pain and it doesn't fit the 7M...
