The heater blows air, but its not warm.

if the car is a 89 with a 88 ecu and engine wiring harness would any of the pins need to be swapped?

anyone have any ideas

Thanks guys

is the heater valve routed correctly? in my old 88 i had to switch a hose around to get "hot" air for winter and "cooler" air for summer. the a/c didn't work :3d_frown:

heater valve?

is that right behind the turbo, on the fire wall in the engine compartment?\

and hose, vacuum hose or coolant hose?

Thanks for the help so far guys :)

The only thing that would not let it blow cold are is if you don't have a thermostat, theres no vacuum to open the vale, or the electric switch to allow the vac to open the vale to the heater is broke... you could test if it get a signal if you put a multimeter on it.

How is your coolant level? If your fluid is low, your heater won't blow hot air. May be a heater core problem as well. Is your car leaking coolant from the center of the car??? It sounds strange I know, but it will. Also, is your carpet on the passenger side a little wet, towards the firewall area? If it is wet, or feels oily, it's your heater core. And, if it is your heater core, have fun. It only took me 12 hrs.

Or, if you don't have a MM, you can take the line with constant vacuum from the switch, and plug it into the diaphram on the HCV.

Thanks for the replies!

I'll make sure the heater valve is hooked up like that, I'm 98% sure it is but won't hurt to double check.

It does have a thermostat, brand new one.
I'll also check the vacuum line to make sure its connected on the other end.
Also check the signal to the valve.
will there be any voltage to the valve when the heater is not supposed to be active?

Coolant level is normal, no leeks anywhere and carpet is not damp.

Thanks for all the info, this will give me a few things to check.

The bypass heater VSV.... will that make the heater valve stay open at all times (making heater core hot always)?

Thank you all for your time and help!

It will make the heater valve stay open all the time, provided the diaphragm is not ruptured. Then it will not open. You could, in that case, use a zip tie. Tie up the metal arm to keep it open.

edit: The thing is, this is for testing and short term patch. If this works and you get heat, the heater vsv is bad. It is common. You would need to get a new one.

I double checked and the hoses are hooked up correctly

Vacuum line was connected, I did the bypass and the heater worked so i checked the wire and there is no signal on either wire.

Where does the other end of the plug to the vsv go to?
does it go to the ECU or to a different location?

Thanks for the help!
