They've never been apart in 20 years and some of them have a LOT of connections so will be a royal pain in the ass to do...

^^^^ Too right. So far they're the roughest part of the pull as far as sheer aggravation goes, though the screws on the foot pad weren't a lot of fun either as rusted as they were. Hopefully I'll be able to finish pulling the dash Monday and get the heater core, evap core, and expansion valve out and replaced, then everything back in Tuesday & Wednesday.

On that subject Yota, don't know what refrigerant you're running (if any) but while you're in your dash you might want to think about replacing your expansion valve if you plan on converting your A/C. I'm going ahead and replacing mine (and maybe the evaporator core) while I'm in there since the system has been opened and it's never been converted from R-12.

Fwiw, should he choose to do that at a later date, the evap can be removed without pulling the dash...

That's right, it's accessible just by pulling the glove compartment, isn't it.

thanks for the heads up but mines already been converted. Previous owner spent over $1000 on the A/C but bought a used condenser and it leaked so she gave up on it, as far as I know thats the only thing I need other than a recharge to get it up and running.

and yes, the dead pedal screws were horrible, my hammer driver got the bottom one loose but the top one got the drill treatment, replacing them with some stainless allen head bolts.

Thanks, I put a lot of work into it. Its a good truck but needs some better suspension, Im going to 3-link the rear and put some Marlin Crawler springs up front.. move the axle forward etc... should be alot better. Funny thing, I just did a bunch of maintenance to it, after I put a new gasket on the exhaust manifold its getting literally double the gas mileage it did before.
anyway,

I soldered up the pipes to the core today, tested it in the sink, no bubbles. Have the dash almost fully together now. So far I snapped the black plastic heat vent thats on the dash cover, not sure how but it did, broke the mount off the little black box thats above the ECU/Glove box that slips onto the little tab on the cross bar, broke the little locking tab off it but the worst is when I was struggling to get the dash in I messed up my ebrake handle.. it was mint :icon_mad: now the leather is like scratched up.
