heater core control?

what is that weird assembly that is bolted on the passenger side firewall... my upper heater hose goes into it and then theres another hose that comes off the bottom of it and it goes into the heater core... i bypassed it :evil2: and i thought it was the control solenoid but it turns out that my heat temp still adjusts!!! WTFREAK!~!!:aigo: i hope i didnt bypass something important... its not like i had a choice anyhow that stupid plastic nipple cracked and shattered off...

Its what lets the coolant run through the heater core to ge heat. A blend door would control temp changes.

Not trying to be an ass or anything but you really should know what something does before you disable, bypass, or remove it from your car, that Toyota put there for a reason. That said, no real harm here. The primary function of that valve is to keep excess heat out of the cabin. It helps increase the efficiency of the air conditioning. It also keeps hot air from blowing into the cabin when there is a pressure differential between the inside and outside of the car, such as when you traveling at a high rate of speed down the highway. Not a big deal if you you live in a cold climate but it's nice if you live somewhere warm.

Mine did the same thing and I've had it bypassed for over a year now.

0 issues in the central FL summer with properly working AC.
