Heat on acceleration only.

I’ve tried searching this topic but can’t find anything with my symptoms. My heat doesn’t work till I his the gas peddle. If it’s idling it will just blow cold. After it warms up it will only blow heat if I stick my foot in it. Any ideas? I already have the valve manually stuck open all the time and I burped it good. I can feel the hot water in the hoses on both sides of the valve so I know its getting in the car.

Why a zip tie?
You apply direct vacum to the top of the valve. This also gives you control through your climate control unit .

I want it to be open all the time so I can test the problem. I have another valve as well incase this one was bad. Since coolant is now passing threw it all the time, I know it’s not the issue. So what’s wrong with this thing? Why heat on acceleration only? I burped it so it should be working right?

You shouldn't have to burp your cooling system...if everything is working as it should, and you have no leaks (even tiny leaks) then the cooling system will purge itself after a little while. I would pressure test the cooling system.

I agree with that. I have never had to burp a cooling system on any other car before. What makes this one so different?

Sounds like a dead or dying amplifier in the Climate Control.

Even if you zip tie the water valve open there's a servo controlled air door inside the Heater box controlled by ta daaaa the CC Amplifier circuit.

If this dies NO HEAT......

That’s good to know. I was thinking of taking out my heater core on my parts car but even with the dash out its being a bit of a pain to remove. How hard is it to get to this servo? Is it actually inside the box? If so then that will be a real pain to get to on my car.

If the supra is like any onther normal auto zone climate controlled car.. the pc he is describing is internal circuitry to the CC head... were you push the buttons to turn it on/off defrost yada yada, you know what i mean.

because our cooling system is different and we need to do that. In order to let it burp it self, you need to drill a small hole on the top of t-stat. Read SOGI about it, it was covered there ;)

Yea that’s how I found out it was Euro. I tried replacing my sliders first with the push button version from my 88 parts car. The plugs were completely different. I’m going to have to do some more research on this cooling system for sure. I have had a few early 80s Celica’s and a couple 83 280 ZXs and never had this burping issue. There really might be some more air in it but why the heat when I hit the gas? Sounds like electrical or something like that. Oh well. If I don’t solve it so be it. I don’t drive her that much anyway. I only need it on Fridays. ;)
