So I spent a good part of my day looking for a deep socket that will fit ARP headstuds without having to modifly it to clear the cams and the valve spring casing. What socket are you guys using where did you get it etc.....

Thanks

I used a normal craftsman deep socket(whatever the size). You just gotta rotate the cams so the socket fits between the cam and the side of the head. It was a Really tight fit, without the cam perfect the socket wouldnt fit for me.

intake stud nut 2 counting from the front of the car, I had to rotate the cam a touch to cinche it. I gave that nut another 2 ft/lbs because the socket was hard up to the cam.
3/8 drive 12point 14mm deepwell socket, craftsmen, bought in a 10 pack with other sizes.

yeah i have a 9/16 12pt for a 1/2" drive but its almost like the socket gets to "beefy" to soon (getting larger for the 1/2 drive).

14mm deepwell, 12 point, 3/8" drive. You will need a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter for the torque wrench.
ARP spec for torque on the stud nuts (using moly for lube) is 80 ft/lbs....don't go higher. Install the studs in the block finger tight.

if you're needing a deep socket the studs aren't in the block all the way...

normal 12 point 3/8's drive is what I used...

I'm pretty sure they make a 14mm 12 point deep thats a thin wall socket so it will fit in that tight space. The one I use seems to be thinner than the normal craftman I have in my toolbox. Search around head studs are not something you want to half ass.

poodles: my block has been decked I am sure my studs are in there. I dont need to use the deep socket till i do the 60 pound pass on the studs any thing under that normal socket works

Yes, you CAN use a regular 12pt,

But as you start to cinch the nut down on the head I get awfully irked about the amount of contact between the nut and the socket (there is enough to torque it but I was a pansy and used a deep socket anyway).
