I'm in the middle of an interior swap and was wondering if there was a way of getting the front, middle and rear headliner off without damaging it. Are they glued to the roof or held on with clips? Has any one done this?:1zhelp:

Its glued. My suggestion is replace it with vinyl. I had mine done with a vinyl that had a leather-like texture and color that matched the gray in the car. It looks fantastic and is easy to clean. I didn't do the vinyl myself, but it cost less than $100 and it couldn't have turned out nicer.

Mine has a sunroof top and the headliner is the fabric type with a thin sheet of foam that is glued. It is very difficult to remove without damaging the foam and if you have the sunroof it would be difficult to put vinal around the sunroof motor hump without it wrinkling so you might just want to put new liner in there from a shop, maybe they would sell you some outright if an estimate turns out to be too much.
A targa top would be simpler as you can work on it with the roof on a table.

I think a competent installer could do a vinyl headliner in a sunroof car and make it look great. My roof is not flat at all and the vinyl is not wrinkled or folded. My car used to have a red interior (now gray). So my targa top had red plastic trim on each side above the doors. The installer wrapped them in the same material and you would never know it wasn't factory. It looks flawless. My guess is that this material has a certain amount of stretch in it. Regardless, installed it should be around $100 for such a small car.

Don't ditch the insulation under the headliner. Mine was in perfect shape and the installer said it was hard to beat Toyota quality.

Go to a locally-owned body shop, find out who they use for interior work. My shop used a guy that worked out of his house so his prices were real reasonable. They had been dealing with him for years, and he came highly recommended.
