You might wanna consider using black screws to mount the headlight assembly cover.

Plan on it. When I finally do install my new flushmounts, there will be fabrication of core support re-inforcements and clean cutting going on. My half-assed days are over with. Hell, my new flushmount setup set me back about $800.

$800. Ouch. BTW, could you post pics of your headlights' cut-off line, against a wall?

dennis? are u talking about the pic posted by the op? that pic was actually taken at a socal meet back in june of 2002. i remember talking to the owner at that meet. don't remember the owner's name but i'm pretty sure it wasn't dennis. i remember his name starting w/an "a".

The black mkiii with the NSX lights belongs to Survyor22 and that pic is fairly recent, not from 2002.

Wow, NSX headlights are pure sex. A set of NSX headlights to go along with a nice set of HID's....Ahh that would be amazing.
Ive never really liked cars with flush mounts that came from the factory with pop-ups. I dont think it looks right on supra, Rx-7s or 300Zx's

I'd do flush-mounts if I could find a set that actually look right.

I'd have the following requirements:
  • Must sit flush with the hood/fender
  • No screws or other fasteners visible when the hood is closed.
  • Proper beam pattern/illumination for both low and high beams.
Functionality must be first priority, of course, but for that, the stockers work well.

NSX lights are too expensive and require too much "Hacking" to get installed. Then adding an HID Bulb to a Lens that was not designed for HID is not wise.

Look at the Hella 90mm modules - or even their newer stuff to get even smaller. These are some of the most advanced lighting available on the market. And they have HID versions that have passed both DOT and SAE. These are actually easier to mount than the NSX lights too.

Bad cutoff (horrible glare, blinds other drivers):

Good cutoff (less glare, keeps the light on the road, not in the other drivers face):

This is what the beam pattern on my hardtop MKIV looks like. I've got over $1200 invested into the headlights of that car btw. $800 ain't shit...

Cut off line as in, park the car about 15-20 feet from a wall, so we cam see the pattern the lights give. But you don't have them in yet so that's gonna be hard to do haha.

Edit: got beat to it.

Use a 12volt battery to power the lights, even though it's off the car, and shine it against your garage wall.

I agree 100%. I've been working on my headlight project off and on since 2000 - yes I am slow but I want it to be perfect and don't spend every waking minute working on it.

I also have about $1500 invested so far and likely have a few hundred more to go.

Here's another set of flush headlights on my 1st Supra. The newer (and much more expensive) generation is 10 feet from me waiting to be installed on my 87, along with a massive pile of other parts.

My headlights I'm going to use is 2 55w H7 projectors on each side (4 total). The lights I bought are adjustable. If I went with the HID version of my lights, I would have spent about $2300 total.

This?

Hella 90mm HID projectors for low @ $1100 for the pair (lens, bulb, ballast included)
Hella 90mm Halogen High Beams for high @ $100ish for the pair
Replacement headlight buckets so I can hack those up instead of wrecking my originals @ $200 for the pair
Misc Brackets and arms for mounting the headlights
