I recently did a head gasket job on my NA Supra with 86k original miles. It had a slightly blown head gasket in 5 and 6. I took it all apart, got everything machined and put the head on a stock head gasket with new bolts torqued to 72 ft lbs. The head had some pitting around 2 of the coolant ports, and im afraid they were too large. I did not properly measure to make sure they were under the sealing surface, and it seems to have come back to me to bite me in the arse. At least i learned something right? Ive got a little time left before i have to go off to school. Everything on this car works cherry, and it ran good for about 500 miles, and now i seem to be getting air in the coolant- the exact previous symptoms. Btw, yes, i did re torque the head after 4 heat cycles. I just want a good reliable daily driver that is fun. I like this car and plan on keeping it if my next repair goes smoothly.

My question is, can this pitting be repaired using a type of marine epoxy or welding? Is it worth it? How can i buy a new head with confidence that it is in good condition and not warped beyond spec? Thanks for all the help. It is very sad to see this happen, as im not made of money, but i guess it serves me right for not making sure it was a good seal.:nono:

Fill in the pits.... forget it.

When buying a used head either buy from a reputable seller or get one from a yard and when you pick it up take a machinists straight edge to make sure it's at least level enough to machine flat.

How much coolant are you using. Are you sure it's because of the HG leaking again? Could be you may have had some air trapped in it, now that the level is a little lower it's grugling?

Another possibility is a bad radiator cap. I was loosing coolant for a while and it was dumping out the over flow and simply drying up before I would check it.

i am going to keep driving it for a while to confirm it wasn't just trapped air, but i am pretty confident it is leaking. I will also be doing a leakage test to confirm it.

It has a new radiator cap and no leaks. Its not burning coolant, just a small trap of air after a drive.
