Im jsut going to take a WILD guess and say the pistons have to come out right?

That's pretty good Jeff. Now that you mention it, I have read that in order to properly install a mhg, the whole bottom of the motor needs to be rebuilt.........:biglaugh:

Just a quick jump in here, I don't see the point of doing another stock HG with better bolts and torque, its still gonna BHG maybe not as quickly but its gonna happen, do it right, do it tight, go MHG and ARP

It's noone elses business what other people do at work.
Even if that was the case, NWS is an all-around way of saying, if it could offend anyone or is visible to anyone without a forewarning, it's not acceptable. Believe it or not, your standards of obscenity might not be on the same level as a 12 year old child surfing the web.

Back on Topic.

stock headgaskets can hold upwards of 400 horsepower easily, torqued down with some ARP's. it's all in the tune, really...

to add to this thread, and some people might be surprised that i did this, but i still don't regret it, and my car still hasn't let me down:

i've got the whole JDM motor deal in my car. when i pulled the motor last time, i decided to go with a cometic MHG. however, i did NOT have the time or money to have the block machined. (was in a hard place, changing over between jobs, and my dad was getting pissed at me for having the car up on jackstands in the driveway forever)

i checked the block to make sure it was true (read: level, straight), made sure there was no pitting, used brake cleaner to take the viton coating off the cometic MHG, and coated it with Permatex brake quiet. i had my head lapped to the proper RA.

i put two studs in, put the FIPG on the two spots in the front, put the head on, put the rest of the studs in, and torqued it down in sequence, in 4 steps up to 90ft lbs.

i recently re-torqued, as i used new hardware.

i DO regret not doing it the "right way", as that's what i always preach to people, but i must admit, my car is running like a champ, and has no issues at all. i've overboosted to 28psi on a malfunctioning EBC, on the stock turbo, and nothing happened. i've done a compression test, all perfect, checked for water oil mixes, nothing, did a block test, perfect results.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS, but i will say that it worked for me. do so at your own risk, should you decide to go this route.

I have the toyota hg on my car and have had it on there for almost a year. I boost regularly at 14 psi. and dynod at 406. I've not had one problem out of it. Hopefully I won't. Good luck with yours...............lol

Ive got it all sorted out! Im jsut going to get the head machined, and run it without a head gasket. I heard of people doing that before, and i would save alot cause i wouldn't have to buy a head gasket.

Just playin guys.

Ho-ly Shizzle. LOL, Will, I "almost" thought you were serious...

Then I saw a big gap of nothing and....:DYeah:D

Try the no headgasket thing. I think it'll work out just fine.

:p

I completely agree with you, s383.

I don't really see why people keep changing HG's and get getting everything machined, just for them to keep blowing. Go straight to the source of the problem...don't run a HG. Torque down to a million pounds and your golden. :icon_bigg
