Pull the cam gear cover, check the marks, and verify that the #1 is at TDC, the crank pully is on the "0" mark, the rotor is pointing at #1 wire.

Most times you will find the marks don't line up due to improper install of the timing belt.

Then time it with a timing light per TSRM with the jumper wire.

Nothing wrong with replacing the TPS even if it's not causing a code. I'd at least test it to see if the resistance moves steadily or has a lot of pits and spikes when moving though. Same goes for the VAF. (I do agree though... make sure there's actually a reason to replace it. It may be old but that doesn't mean your money wouldn't be better spent on something else first.)

On a side note, while everyone's thinking about it...

I see the whole "ECU learning" thing posted up all the time.... How long does it take for your car to start running like you're accustomed to after having reset the ECU? On mine it doesn't even take 30 minutes of mixed driving before things are handling as I'd expect.

People make it sound like it takes days or weeks... am I just lucky as hell?

About 28 minutes, 21 seconds. :)

I love how on the first couple of pages everyone throws out torque specs without having the slightest clue about whether the OP has stock bolts or ARP's, and doesnt mention what type of hardware they are referring too either. This only adds to the misinformation problem...

True, but I assumed he was using the stock headbolts.

Even worse is that he might have done it dry, or with the wrong lube...

I lamo @ this all the time. It's obvious many people don't understand how that whole thing works. The engine should run the same whether the ECU hasn't been reset for a year or was reset 2 minutes ago. Mine does. If others don't there's something wrong with them.

While we're on the subject JJ, it seems, , that when I first "get on it" it will run ok, and when I get on it the second time it will run better. My imagination? Or the ECU remapping to run that way?

Oh and BTW the OP hasn't given much info on his problem for anything but speculation.

Well, AJ, for most of what you describe I'd vote imagination... but, given the size of injectors you're running it may be a genuine reflection of the adjustments the ECU is making. Hell, your injectors flow about double that of the stock injectors. So when the ECU tries to pull x amount from the duty cycle it pulls a hell of a lot more than it should.

And YES, the OP needs to start filling in some of the blanks....

I'd say imagination too. Closed loop data is used to adjust open loop but you shouldn't notice it happening unless something else is wrong. Put another way the default values, the "base code", will run the engine just fine if there aren't other issues it has to deal with. Even then it's ability to "fix" things is very limited.
