ok i have an 89 turbo and about half of my cam journals are scorn as well as the cam itself. my question is would this casuse low oil preassure? i have been running it like this for a while and it seems to be fine but i dont know about the oil preasure because my sending unit is shot. or i might be looking for a new head...

generally the cams dont much effect oil pressure....the pressure readings come from the main journals and not the head.....and if it makes you feel any better, ive never seen a mint condition used head before....every head ive ever seen had scoring....the way the head is designed its damn near impossible to avoid this.

They always look bad as it's a steel cam in an aluminum head. Babbit material from the head builds up on the cams, it's normal.

Won't affect oil pressure as the oil is going through the bottom end first...

Large clearance will offer less resistance to flow which means lower pressure. Cam clearances wont effect pressure as much as rod or mains but will have an effect.

if it wont show up on the gauge then im happy. as long as there is good preassure. how much would it cost to have it ground and then put little bearings in? if thats possible but ive heard of it being done

I understand what your saying but were just gonna have to agree to disagree because its kinda unlogical to test it out. I still think it would show minor pressure drops on the gauge, but thats me.

YZ125- I've thought about this to as i'm swapping cams in a couple weeks. I dont understand why Toyota didn't have them from factory, other than being "affordable".

GC89-You can stil buy them!! Wow, that must be pricey too.

You should check the bearing clearances (unloaded with no valve spring pressure). If worn beyond limits the rearward journals will starve for oil as the cam is fed from the forward journal.
