but the head isnt moving..ive realized there are 14mm bolts next to the spark plugs..these need to come out?

The head should come off... make sure that you got the small bolts off of the timing plate/cover where the cam gears are at. I think there may be 1 or two that attack to the block(?)... can't remember.
Also, even after everything's loose, you may still need to pry the head off with a large screwdriver. be sure not to scratch any of the mating syrfaces, but there a couple of good spots where you could try to separate the head/block. One that comes to mind is the corner spot almost next to where the alternator would be.
There is a pin that aligns the head/block, which could just need some pursuading. Try to pry/pull the head straight up. also make sure that you did remove any brackets on the exhaust/turbo side which may be keeping things from moving.

That is what I had to do to get my head out, I just pulled it a few days ago. Got everything un-bolted and tried to seperate them but they wouldn't come apart. So I just went and got a screwdriver and hammer, then found a good spot and one little hit and they poped apart.
i didnt have the right leverage...turns out that back coolant line was still connected..didnt come accross it during the dylans how to i got the back one out..and realized the thermostat had one too..wasnt comin out so in the heat of the moment i just cut it..its off now
oh man that's funny because after i pooped my head off i realized the rear coolant hose was still on....d'oh! try an engine hoist on the head, that should get er off real quick (don't forget to triple check for remaining bolts as stated by others)
be very, very careful when using any type of lever on the head. you dont want to mar the surface of the head or block, thus causing more problems for yourself down the road. that being said, i also used a large flatblade screwdriver, but only to crack it loose, then i pulled it off by hand.

Do not pry against a mating surface that needs to seal. Especially one with these types of tolerances. Think guys, put a bar in one of the ports coming off the head and pry it loose like that. Just be careful of the valves. And those 14mm plugs are not decoration. They hold down the valley cover and plug coolant passages through the head.
There are a couple of lever points around the head where there's a 3mm gap to get a screwdriver in with out being anywhere near the sealing surface.
the first time i did a head removal i nearly busted my back.The next times i used a engine hoist/crane.saves your back and you can lift and hold it while checking for any connected parts.Makes for a easier head install too.

It would be easier while on the car, cause the head will be held tight. Did you try a 1/2" drive allen socket and a breaker bar??
Perhaps an impact gun will do it, before or after the head is off.
I had a lot of fun bashing mine with a rubber mallet. I used that mallet on everything for dissasembly...

well i got those 3 bolts holding the gasket..turns out it was just a couple of coolant hoses holding it down on the front and rear of the exhaust side..and i didnt pull hard enough on the head it did just lift right off..with two people neway.
yeah those heads are way to heavy to lift out of there, and a tip, do not try to turn to put the head down, you will screw something up in your back, just a suggestion.
When i did my head gasket, me and a friend lifted the head off hanging over the engine bay. I wish i had an engine life available. It really killed my back the next day.
You guys need to become morea active ahahaa. The head without cams can't weigh more than 50-60 lbs, probably closer to 50. And fully loaded it can't weigh more than 65 or so. Now the crank weighs a tone, around 70 or so and it's still manageable.

I pulled the head out by myself, but I had already taken the cams out but everything else was still atached and all the cam caps were all bolted back on. It was a lil heavy but not to bad, last time I took the head out my brother helped me lift it out.
it wouldnt have been as bad if it werent for me having to drill a bolt out..and having to lift it over the leftover bolt
