how can i tell if the floater is faulty or not working properly? my gas gauge sometimes drops to E (even at full tank) and sits there, but i had just filled it up and then sometimes it would fix itself... what would be the cause? if it's the floater how do i diagnosis it? thanks

You have gunk on the connection - trust me.

Pull out the level sensor unit - you can access it from the hatch area. You will see a metal piece that rubs against a metal coil as the float goes up and down. Clean both of these and reinstall.

That seems easier than I thought it would be. I've been putting off investigating my gauge issue for 3 years because I thought I'd have to drop the tank.
