my car's real clean but there were a few little things on it i'm trying to fix up.
the first one is the rear hatch would not open when i pulled the lever inside. so i took off the panel.

the cable pulls from the driver side (right) but when i tried to pull on the passenger side one it just pulled right out and had a frayed end.
now my question is it looks like it goes back into the body somewhere. do i have to take the tail lights out to get to this to replace it?

anyone else have this happen to them?

That cable, plus the one at the latch, connect at the key lock assy. You need to remove the tails to get access.

In my case I replaced that cable assy and it all started working again. However, I believe that you can place a shim between the plastic case in your hand in the photo, and the cable termination ball to soak up some slack and have it work again.

The cable assy was not particularly cheap. I think it was around $70, and may not be available anymore.

guess i got something to look for at the junk yard this weekend.
i went last weekend looking for the passenger trim molding around the lock and about of the 23 mk3s i found (yes 23 i counted) i didn't find one but that cable i should be able to find. there's not too much slack the cable it's self broke

Add a solenoid and cable between it and the lever. run a power wire switch to the front of the car. remove cables throw in garbage enjoy your new electric trunk and gas door release if your inclined to do them both and get rid of the complete cable assembly.

that sounds like fun, i might do it if i can get my hands on solenoid for the right price and if the wiring will be less work than the tail light removal :icon_bigg

Do you have any spare supra doors or a junk yard with intact supra doors around? the MKIII haves the solenoids already and they are plenty strong enough.

Use the supra door lock solenoids to pen your stuff I have four of them used on my supra

4 to open each door the gas door, rear hatch, left door, right door.(handles are shaved)

there is a way you have to modify the driver & passenger side doors to remove the extra spring tension to pull all the extra levers back into place. because I removed over 75% of the junk that was extra on them.

Note: you need to mount the trunk lid servo farther from the lid unless you want to modify your interior for it otherwise mount it by the tail lights with a longer arm.
I will take a picture of how to modify the door locks.
(gasdoor) (trunk release) (modified door lock) (other side of it) (left overs after trimming it)

door paneling
two screws actualy bolt it in.
There is a power plug with a switch built into the solenoid but you dont need those wires out of the four you only need 2.
there is a little arm atached to the end of it isnt that hard to take out after you take four solenoids out. may need a ratcheting phillips to get it out quicker because of clearances
