Has anyone tried running no power steering?

I think I will look into the electro-hydraulically assisted power steering..seems cool and unique, and it makes more power :0

An electric power steering system like the MR2 uses more power than just having a normal power steering pump.

Early 86.5's have minimal power assistance due to the large pully that slows the pump down, couple this with a slightly smaller steering wheel and big front rubber and you get nice "feel", I ran a smaller pully for a short while and prefer the larger one.

As for the MR pump not taking power while straight ummm this is how ALL PS Pumps are ;)

Interesting, for Japan, they changed the pulley in 01/87, but in North America, they used the early pulley all the way until the end of the 1989 model year, 1990 got the newer pulley.

Jeff: As far as I can tell there are 3 pullies that fit our cars I know the small ones came along with PPS but I think the 2 larger were non PPS early cars.
(very confusing)

jeff: my car is an 89 and it had the smaller pulley...

PPS gives TONS of road feel at higher speeds, low speeds is great in a parking lot...

I like my luxury, hence why I haven't taken any features out of my car...

well me my self hated 86 to 88 power streeeing way way to light sneen your in the other lane high speed's never liked

but but i kinda do like my 92 power assite power streeing i driven 89 befor and i found it was not as smoth transfer over as the 92

whould i ever swap my car back to manule mabey later even thou i kinda like it

manule you really do feel the road alot more and i find you can go faster since you have a better feel

as for the mr2 pump ypou need to up grade the alt since it will sucks some power out fo the system that way they ahve 2 diffent alts 85 and 100

what i was going to do was runa resate ( aka volagte controler ) on the mr2 power streeing pump so i choudl fine tune the power assits this is just thought that was runing though my mind and shoudl work really well

all in the best way to find out fi you like it is take the power steeroing belt off and give it a test and if you liek it once you get ride fo the pump and such it eayer to trun as befor since you not moven fulid like befor

i had my P/S give out for about half a lap one day (i think from fluid being too hot or something it was a really hot day and after i crusied down the back straight i got my power steering back) and it was a bitch to turn that thing. although it may have just seemed really bad becuase i wasnt prepared/expecting to have p/s suddenly stop working.

meh, i dunno, i think you need some form of p/s , the mr2 idea sounds cool if your tryin to get max clean and max striaght line power.

i removed my powersteering and looped the intake and the inlet together and although it felt nice when casually driving around, however when driving aggressive (hi speeds and fast turns), couped with stiff suspension and smaller then stock styeering wheel - i rekon the car becomes a little unstable and dangerous with the amount of feedback back through the steering wheel

i only put mine back on to attend a drift day and still debating whether i should remove it once again

BTW the progressive ps side of things is shithouse if u ask me - way to light!

id love to know how simple a mustang powersteering rack is to adapt

what are u using duane? factory but looped or retrofitted manual rack

That's what I was just about to mention. I remember years ago hearing about Mustang 5.0 manual racks almost being a drop in and really not bad to drive with. I pondered one for awhile but never actually put my hands on one.

Factory but looped. Funny you say PS is hard at times or dangerous.. At the SCC event, I even had a pro driver said he liked the PS as it was better to keep control. (I agree with him.)
