A friend of mine at work was telling me of a x-brace that was on the bottom of his friends mk3. It was a white turbo here in Memphis Tn about 5 or so years ago. He said it was a group buy unit so I assume someone here may have one? Just wanted to know if anyone has heard of this or even seen one.

I think he's talking about a chassis brace. Not for the Targa, It's mounted underneath the car. Tighten's up the frame, and usually increase the rigidity of the Subframe.

Yea the chassis brace. Just really wanted to see one as I'm a visual person. And if I knew how to get one I would...assuming it cost less than my car.

there are a few that come to mind.

there was the one that mounted in the rear floorboard, similar to the doluck brace.

there was a lower subframe brace that was like the JIC, but not an X

there was another that was in the hatch that tied the strut towers to the rear. kinda similar to a roll bar rear section.

and lastly there was a harness bar inside the car that mdc made.

ive been on here since the start of this forum, and cant recall any other bracing made, aside from the targa bracing mentioned.

im sure you can have one made. i know a fabricator here that would make you one if you came up to ky.

there isn't any ground clearance for such an item (unless you run stock ride height) so far as I know...
Yea thats what I figured as well. Might be worth it though......

poodles is right about ground clearance. i have 3" side exits and im stock height. i scrape those on occasion.

I know several here that can do it too but what I want is to know if it would be worth the weight and cost. It seems nobody that was in that group is here.....so I guess it was not worth the price or its one of those you won't ever find one kinda things? Thanks for your response!

I can think of how to put one in, but it would require drilling, removal of the undercaoting ont he chassis, and welding...

I wouldn't want to have to pull the exhaust or drivetrain out though....

The MKIII has some VERY beefy boxed sections that act as frame rails. Cars like F-bodies and mustangs don't have this large boxed section so they almost require them (convertable fox body mustangs came stock with subframe connectors IIRC).

I come from a land down under
I saw one awhile back but like most if not all of these add in braces there was little if any triangulation and being bolted into weak non structural points I can't see how any of them add anything other than weight and the placebo effect....

Nice car wish I could getaway with an exhaust like that! Fuzz around here will let you getaway with 40 inch wheels and no tailltights on a 84 box chevy but heaven forbid you have a "fast looking" car.....I get followed on a weekly basis. Yea guess ill have to get duane at work to get ahold of his old carclub buddy and fill me in on more details. Thanks for all the responses!!!!
