Has anybody been able to use an aristo auto trans? Is it just the kickdown switch that needs wired to work? Can I throw a shifter on it, install a kickdown switch and roll? Who knows. I have searched the web till my fingers bled....I have found people saying that they had aristo trans in their swapped lexus' but they came stock auto so there could be existing wiring that plugs in....Any help would be great

Ok I heard both ways, that the ecu controlled the trans(makes sense because the engine harness plugs into the trans) and that there was a separate trans control. I guess I will be buying that r154....

Tell me more good sir! I REALLY want to run auto. What shifter do you have to use, what wiring?

If you got an aristo clip, run everything the exact way you find it.
This motor is going in your kp right? You may need to play with the shifter location to get it right. On the stock setup, what is the measurement between your shifter and the end of the bellhousing, where it bolts to the block? Have someone measure that for you on other setups to see where you need to move it to.

What did ya'll do for the driveshaft? I had a custom one made, but sounds like there may have been something easier/cheaper.

Aristo = Lexus GS300 : depending on what year lexus, a matching shifter will work. Most engines are out of the jzs147 which is the Lexus versions from 93 - 97 .
The tranny and kickdown is ECU controlled. For cars that don't have the switch on the gas pedal for kickdown, you will need to put a small witch and run the wires to it. In Cressidas, I've seen them put a switch at the throttle linkage.

Here is one method :

Custom. 1st time wasn't balanced so they got another. Used the stock auto shifter.

Lol. No wonder my car never felt fast. I didn't have that kickdown Moe.

Custom driveshaft! OH Joy. One of the extra "going 2jz" expenses.

So is there anything special about the shifter? Is it just a cable style shifter or does it incorporate electronics? Also, does the trans need anything electronicswise that it doesnt get fromt he existing connected harness that plugs into the ecu? Other than the kickdown?

I guess what I am asking is can I wire the kickdown, hook up the trans cooler, run a universal auto shifter and roll?

I think that there is something in the Aristo's shifter assembly that I could not tie back to the 7M shifter... That's why I was trying to use a shifter from an MKIV.

Can't remember what it was now, but jugodegolf seems to have successfully used the stock MKIII one.

The trans uses a standard-type of metal-rod-linkage for shifting.

I may try using the auto tranny in a few years, when I get tired of the 5-speed. The driveshaft cost me about $400... It included a new carrier bearing tho, which costs about $200 by itself.

I have been eyeballing stock lexus shifters such as Is300 and sc400 ect. Hopefully should have everything I need. In pics I have searched for I see plugs on the shifter for the trac button, the power/econo switch, the brake park lockout, and then the illumination for the pattern. Hopefully I can add a kickdown switch and wire the shifter. We will see....

Can't use the cheap controllers on the Aristo trans as they don't have PWM drivers.
