is there a wire inside? i thought it was a karmen vortex not a hotwire. unless you mean a mirror?
I have read posts of people who have opened up afm's and cleaned up and put back together for it to work.

all i ahve clean was the stick parts since i don't want any dabreies gettign in the way

EDIT (Jeff Lange): Nash says all he has been able to clean is the sensor part that sits inside the AFM, he wants to clean it all up to prevent debris from getting stuck in there.

ok this is very simple how can you clean some thing you can not see or get at with out poping off the top cover

all you can do is clean the passge way for the air so that it get a good flow reading but the mirrow and photot cupler will never get clean since you cna get at them and plsu it's bena on there for about 20 year's so i am thinking she will eb dirty as hell or not workign best it cna

http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h34.pdf

i just don't have the balls to pop the top cover since finding new afm eletroic sucks ass

ps k&n air filter's are bad for our system's espily if they are over oiled

ps guys i cna nto be any clear then this and this took me a long time to type

K&N's are just plain bad period. If you insist on using one the less you clean it the better.

Why do you think your AFM needs cleaning? Did you test it? You need to be very careful just shooting anything up there. It needs to leave zero residue and still not destroy plastics. Refrigerant is a good choice as long as the Feds don't catch you. Freon TF is good too but very hard to come by these days.

Frankly, I wouldn't go opening it unless you prove it's bad another way. That's not difficult do with a meter or scope.

I've seen two AFM electronic boxes trashed because carb cleaner was used on them. Not a good idea. I imagine that a careful cleaning with Freon to remove stuck debris would be ok...how about using the canned compressed gas used to blow clean circuit boards?

Why is the K&N filter bad? Does the oil contaminate the sensor? If that's the case, what filter is best for the 7M?

in some test the k&n came in second in flow and filtration. first was.....blitz i think? anyone got the article?

theres nothing wrong with k&n filters. they filter and flow very well (proven, go find the article your self). the oiling problem is only a problem if you OVEr oil it.

Jdub, use what you want. I'm not going to get into the K&N thing, it's just another example of people not knowing what they don't know. Do your homework and you'll see why they're not only useless (as are all so called high flow filters) but they do nothing but harm to your engine, especially if you live in a place like PHX. All I'll say is if you use one don't clean it often. The oil isn't the reason for that btw. The best filter for the car is paper, either the stock one or a quality aftermarket such as WIX. The best of all is an AC Delco.

it was the apexi filter that flowed the best. :)

A vacuum cleaner and some guy shaking dirt over it? That test is a joke. Try a real one:

The bottom line is, as with oil filters, you have to decide between flow and filtration. But unlike an oil filter, which opens it's bypass when restricted, even the most restrictive clean paper filter will flow all the air you'll ever need. I've said it before: The limiting flow factor on any car is the induction system, not any filter. I used to run a K&N too. Yanked it as soon as I saw what it was doing to my oil analysis and never went back.

LOL...I just finished a Google search and read that article. What are you using for an intake? Stock box w/ a Delco filter?
