So i've been cleaning my transmission today, and i noticed that there are a lot of little hairline cracks and such... i understand that its 18 years old (i have a '90) but, im just being cautious and would rather ask the question then pay for it later on.

I'll go take some pics right now...

those are not cracks...those are casting imperfections from when the aluminum was poured or injected into a mold.....the outer side cooled a bit quicker causeing fractures on the outside skin so to speak but then got filled back in with aluminum....you can sand those out or file them out if you like...but they are just from the casting operation....i work alot with cast aluminum at work and see that very often! its no big deal...just take some heavy sandpaper to it if you care.
