Tired of my warped/ falling off moldings on my car, as anyone in the pacific northwest knows the pre-89's have the steel strip which rusts and causes this problem.

My idea is carbon fiber replacements, I wonder if any company out there would be interested in making them? I dont really go for the carbon look but id imagine they would look great painted or even colored carbon/kevlar?

anyone think this is a good idea? who could we contact?

Its been discussed a few times already. There's a guy I'm working with who's producing a few CF pieces as we speak (CF headlight covers & Windshield cowl). If anyone is willing to donate a set of 89+ mouldings I can see if he'd be willing to make a set.

It's going to take about 3-4 weeks to finish the current projects. Then I can contact him and see what he says.

Someone please do this. I have been pushing this idea for the longest! I spoke with CFX, Shineautoproject, etc. No one seems to want to get behind it.

I know 2-3 People locally who would be interested. I thought I read that someone bought a windshield cowl trim piece of Raptor Racing? im not sure if it was made by them but if they do carbon work maybe they would be interested? They are in the Vendors section.

Il start sending emails.. anyone who is interested please start sending emails to CF part makers aswell, the more the better.

What is it about the moldings is it that you guys like? Honestly, I like them the same color as the car. If you guys really want them, I'll try to find a set of 89+ and have them made in CF, but it won't be until next year though.

Mo, It takes longer than 3-4 weeks to make. I've been working with him long enough to tell you that it will take 6-8 weeks minimum.

Targa tops are available and have good fitment. Headliners are also available.

I was the one who got him started on making parts for MK3's. CF kits will be available soon.

They look good the same color as the car but the look of the factory pre-98 mouldings is what looks best, it would be really hard to copy that look though, Colored carbon/kevlar would look amazing.

Even just fiberglass re-makes would work painted to match the car color.

Too bad I am far away, but I do have a spare 92 trim molding. I am also interested in getting the carbon fiber kit, that would be awesome!!!

I've been toying around with the moldings alot lately and come up with a (I think anyways) idea that I have not seen anywhere else before.

Essentially I cut and shape acrylic clear pieces to the eact same shape as the originals and then paint the backside of the molding to the original car color, red in my case.

In the sun they look really slick because the paint is on the backside and the thickness of the plastic makes a sorta "prism" like focus of light onto itself.

The other cool thing is they clean up the look of the moldings because they are just flat without the little sub molding that is usually on top of the regular molding. I am also tinkering with not putting the side markers in and rather just illuminating the molding itself during signalling.

I'll post a few pics if anyone is interested.
