Its probably just "turbo poop". I own this phrase LOL. If you watch a semi truck take off from a stop and blow tons of black smoke out the pipe youve seen turbo poop. Turbo cars build up alot of carbon in the pipes and when you stomp on it. If this is not the case and the smoke is constant check your pcv valve.

Most Semi's are Diesel and that's how they run ...... nothing to do with the turbo :nono:

I have a 1j,didnt know about the pcv, sorry. Ill have to get some vids of smoke clouds left behind some local cars. Theres a 11sec VR4 that leaves a plume from time to time. Ocasionally Ill leave a small smoke screen. If you had blown turbo seals It would leave hellacious trail until you stomped on it and put pressure on the trubo. Had this on a turbo shadow. Had a broken return on a talon. Had a merkur that ran pig rich, had another talon that ran rich. I guess all my damn cars smoke. :icon_conf

yeah,
in my case its more then likely rings.

it only smokes when you hold a steady RPM (IE: 3k~) for like 15-20 seconds. AND when you hit full boost and your flooring the crap out of it itll smoke.

other then that shes all quiet on the western front!

its great my DD 240sx does the samething my supra does when it comes to burning oil.

Question, probably stupid, but...you said Cats plural? I thought there was just 1? I want to make my car "catless" now that I can do it legally. I would like to get a test pipe, but what is involved in "gutting the cats", what do I need to do. I'm N/A and want any shred of hp I can find.

its normal dude, on a cold startup you'll find a greyish white smoke and it will smell like gas. thats what the cats are there to filter , no cat, not filter and you get all that smelly goodness, thing is that on open throttle your exhaust will smell like fish to the people behind you.

and grsupra, turbo's have two, im pretty sure you only have 1. we have one in the middle of our dp next to our oil filter, and one on the bottome under near where the tranny mates to the drive shaft.

Well when I replaced my headgasket the smoke went away. Just do compression check to make sure your rings are good. Then replace all the valve stem seals and of course lapp your valves and you will be golden. Then slap on a decent exhaust with a nice high flow cat and you wont even know that you have a cat, except for the fact that you wont gas yourself everytime you come to a stop.

Ive got new valve seals and new rings.
usually valve seals will cause it to smoke on start up, my car doesnt smoke on start up itll only smoke when you rev it up and the other times i stated
interesting you have new rings and valve seals and its still doing this?

Thats good news for me because mines doing the samething except i dont have new rings etc.

What about oil leaking onto the DP and burning off? have you checked for any oil leaks etc?

I second the nazi road raping pig comment, even if the author was being entirely sarcastic. Really, get a high flow cat at least. It's too bad no one feels guilty about it.
...Everyone else is fucking our trillions of potential decendents in their collective ass, and I want 10hp, so I'm going to put my dick in that big stretched out hole too.
Congrats to everyone who doesn't care.

GCSS: It may have just been cooincidence the Turbo started leaking after you gutted the Cat or maybe it's dropped the back pressure enough to pull oil past the seals on overrun (if the cat was clogged) as the turbo might be tired.

somethings wrong with that guy hes got something suck up his a-hole

IJ:
The thing ive only got 1200 miles since a rebuild on the turbo, could the little metal ring wear out in that short amount of time? I pulled 5 and 6 plugs and they were clean. I dont really know but I think it is a coincidence like you said that they both happened at the same time. But im not sure, I noticed when I rebuilt my turbo that on the shaft theres two grooves where the exhaust side seal goes on the shaft. Would it be possible that I could put two seals on it or would that cause too much drag on the turbo?
