could be that, air in cooling system, or bad heater core. if you smell a sweet smell once and a while it a good chance its the heater core.
Do regular checks for bhg, otherwise park on a steep hill, take off radiator cap, and run the car for a few minutes, bring extra coolant though.

good luck
If I am wrong on any of this, someone please correct me. Thanks

Basically that noise tells you there is air in the cooling system.
It can be caused by not flushing the air from the cooling system or having any kind of leak in it. That includes a BHG, a leaking hose, or anything tomjan87 said as well.

As far as checking for a BHG, there are alot of little things to try, but nothing is as conclusive as a leakdown test. White smoke from the exhaust, loss of coolant with no apparent leaks, milky oilcap/oil, and air in the cooling system are all signs of it, but all of them have other explanations as well.

Jack up the front end of the car or park in such a way that the radiator neck is the highest point in the cooling system. Remove the radiator cap, start the car and put the heat on full blast, let it run for a bit and rev the engine up and hold it at 3k or so a couple of times. The air in the system should bubble out of the radiator neck. When the bubbles are gone, shut the car off and top up the cooling system and your all set.
