I was just told today by the machine shop that my head is unusable. Im trying to look for a GTE head, but will the GE head work on the GTE block? What are the differences? Im trying to find a GTE head locally but its not workin too well.

did the shop tell you WHY exactly the head isn't usable? If not... ask them.

To answer your question, yes the GE head will work, there is nothing different other than the GTE has a different intake cam

My cam journals are horribly shot, (You can look at my other thread called how did this happen), and they dont have any hones small enough to fix the journals.

So the GE and GTE heads are the same, - the intake cam?

intake cam has a different cam lobe profile. but that's not part of the head's casting hah. so yes, GE and GTE heads are the same

Yeah, ive heard it has a different lobe. The NA cam is more for low end torque while the gte cam is for high end power right?

Also,

What do you guys think? I also spoke to the guy @ this machine shop (Bob) and he said he has mic'd every single intake/exhaust cam and he has never seen a difference inbetween the GE and GTE intake cams.
I dont know, but im about to order that head for $400.

you could give the places listed above a try but here is another option

or maybe pm arron at driftmotion, they had a extra one for me, i just figured i would ask them at the time since my original head was found to have cracks in it, i thought the worst they would tell me is no we don't have any 7m heads

Thanks for the link to Rich, Brandon. I just tried to call his # with no luck, and sent him an email. Hoping to hear back from him soon. Thanks alot.

clearwater cylinder heads is a get what you pay for company.

The head had visible problems on the gasket surface.

The exhaust holes were stripped (had to be retapped)

The journals were torqued down way too tight

In other words: have a machine shop inspect in upon arrival, and be ready to spend another 200 on it
