I have a Gt4082 Vane turbo from a diesel, just wondering if anyone here has seen a vane style turbo used on a gas engine. My plan is to get it to bolt onto my 7m and manually control the vanes for now until I find a way to control it electronically. I'm planning on getting a t4 flanged manifold from cx racing, and I will be using an external wastegate as a safe measure. One thing I am stuck on is finding the correct oil fittings so I can run the lines to this beauty.

Hoping I wont blow my 7m rite away with this thing aiming for 400whp.. Will not be boosting more then 18psi. rite now the car has 550cc lex inejctors and afm, will I need to go bigger?

Last I checked the diesel versions can't take the higher EGTs generated by a gasoline engine. The only company to put these on a gasoline engine is Porsche, and much as I applaud them for it, I also know that they are perfectly capable of telling their owners that the turbo is a wear item and must be replaced every so often. Porsche owners are unlikely to balk at this, either.

With that said, it's only a matter of time before these come over to the gasoline performance world, and I'd be happy to see you be one of the first!

for the fittings, take the turbo to a local hydraulic shop, they may be some odd imperial or metric size, and hydraulic shops usually have all sorts of fittings.

I might have to take off the vnt controller that box is probably going to hit the strut tower. I'm hoping it clears though since I'm going to order an ardruino and program it to control the box. On the other hand the turbo looks really sexy with out the big ass box on the side lol, I will probably just find a good setting something like half open.
thanks for that tip enraged there is a hydraulic hose shop down here that I will be taking it to for an estimate.

as grim pointed out, its not going to last along time with the high EGTS from a gasoline engine, unless you add meth injection to lower the temps. though maybe a new turbine wheel optimized for the higher EGTs could be gotten and swapped in

from the research i have done the only that could go wrong is the vanes will get gunked up and sticky the wheel should be fine. meth is a good idea.

The computer varies the vanes in response to boost and exhaust back pressure based on various engine loads and speeds. How do you plan on controlling it yourself? On International engines it is also the waste gate that works with the integrated engine brake. (in place of the jake brake) And with electronic control of the injection process, heavy black smoke from incomplete combustion is greatly reduced, which raises the temps of diesel combustion even higher. It might work just fine for temps, the manufacturer would have to provide the information. And Porsche sucks, and is not a good example. I don't think you should try it because you can't control the speed.

People have manually controlled Holset variable vane turbos with no ill effects. I have seen both wastegate actuators and spring setups used. There is a MKIV on SF using an HE351VE with a waste gate (also externally gated, this is JUST for controlling the vanes). I seem to remember him saying something in the 7-10lb range would be ideal, but he was using a 5lb spring and said it was still pretty decent. There's an Audi 4000 Quattro on youtube running an HE351VE as well, but it's using a spring setup with stop screws to keep it from opening or closing completely. You can find videos of the Audi on youtube, as well as a 12V Cummins running exactly the same spring deal with clearer shots of the spring setup in action.

I'd just directly link you to all of the above, but my laptop is down and I'm using a family computer. Shouldn't be hard to find, though. Not sure what your turbo is off of, but Holsets are becoming more and more commonly used with variable vane stuff on gas motors. I think there are standalone vein controllers available for a couple hundred bucks for the powerstroke turbos. I wouldn't worry about the heat concerns raised above. Everyone has been saying that about diesel turbos for years and it's really a non issue. There are TONS of cars running Holsets (OEM diesel turbos) with absolutely no issues.
