Just wanted to update this to help anyone with a bad BB turbo

I went to garretts website and they have a buy back program for the damaged/used turbo which MDC informed me of. You have to talk to one of garretrs authorized vendors and they ask you a little about what happened with the turbo. I guess your turbo has meet some requirements in order to qualify for the exchange. You send your turbo into them and they check it over and they give you credit towards the new turbo. I'm getting a new GT35R for $480!!! Not a bad deal after thinking I was going to have to eat up the all of the $900 I spent on it. Hope this helps someone out......

You are talking about

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/products/BBService.html

and basically they are looking at the CHRA to be good. The compressor and turbine can be shot (like your is), the CHRA is what they are intreted in. I think Honeywell/Garrett is working on a process to rebuild BB CHRA.

So, basically $1400 for a new GT35R...not bad ;)

The guy that sold it to you still should be flogged though.

Yea, thats the site. $1400 is great compared to the $2200 I thought I was going to spend. So I thinks its now worth buying a bb turbo now that they have the buy back program. If it was a journal bearing you'd still have to get it rebuilt anyway for just about the same price I'm getting for a new one. The guy that sold it to me owned a "drag" civic that he had the turbo on. I should have known better.....
