Long time lurker, new poster.
I have had my 89 Turbo since June last year, and have been reading these forums since some time before that. Today i got a message saying i ought to post or risk getting my account deleted, and figured this was as good a time as any to stop putting off my introduction post.

Anyway, here is my car:

That is, before it broke down :).

It broke down on the way home from a long trip to a motor show at Mantorp race track here in Sweden. I got lucky though, I suppose you could say. It broke down around 2KM from home, lucky me, as the trip was more than 400KM in total.

It made a nasty noise and the gearlever felt like it was gonna jump out of gear, and it did this on a bridge where i couldnt stop, so i coasted about another 100M and managed to pull in to a sideroad, just as the motor stopped and powersteering and brakes faded.

I didnt try to fire it back up, for fear of causing further damage, working or not I would never feel comfortable driving it without giving it an overhaul. So we towed it home.
Where it now stands:

Only it is no longer summer, and the engine is lifted and standing at the workshop owned by a friend and fellow MK3-owner, seen below anonymizing himself by hiding his face:

And the guy in the flanell shirt is me.

Anyhow, before the engine broke there was the sound of a bearing, believed to be the crankbearing, at certain revs. I also believe I had an oil leak prior to failure, since the oil level was well below half when i emptied the engine, and there was oil dripping from the screw in the oilpan.

Personally I blame myself for not checking to see if i needed a gasket between the screw and the pan when i changed the oil. But the engine would probably have needed a rebuild anyhow, with the bearing making the rattling sounds it did.

Plans for now are rebuilding the engine, the usual thing with MHG, rebuilding/replacing oil pump etc. We still have not torn the engine down, but will be starting work soon.

Nice car. Welcome to SM bro. I think now would be a good time to start a build thread. I will be looking forward to seeing it in the future hopefully.

Nice and clean Supra. Still on the factory paint job? :biglaugh:

Thanks, and yes, factory paint. The car has a full history of Toyota-service up to and including the 130000 KM service, but after that it was serviced at the previous owners buddys shop. It now stands around 165000K KM A few receipts but not many.

Welcome to Supramania.

You and I share the same taste in jackets haha

Well I take alot of flak for that same taste from friends, good to see that I am not alone in having a sharp sense of fashion.

Thanks, I'll consider making a serious build thread, atleast once we really start tearing into it.

"Vill du hjälpa mig med min hoppsäck?" - Would be the correct term I would say :)

I certainly hope it will be back up and running by the end of may or whenever the roads have been cleaned of all the salt and gravel they spread on the roads around here during winter.

Nice shine on that one, and a nice photostage as well. I have a few scratches on my paint, but it's in a decent condition being as old as it is. I am something of a freak when it comes to detailing. I love spending hours on waxing.

Tackar! Bor du i norge eller stämmer Houston TX enligt sig?

Is that spanish?

Norwegian more like, quite similar to swedish.
Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian are similar enough that we can understand eachother, with some difficulties sometimes, admittedly. Icelandic is also related, but further apart. Norwegian and swedish are the closest couple I would say.
